Is being single considered monogamy? Or is that NOnogomy?

I believe it was a man & a woman who knew they wanted to totally & completely merge. Statistics show that many who "fall in love" think that's what makes the deal to merge...it's not. A complete merge is only possible when it's mind, body & soul.. have bewitched the two individuals ....as did Mr. Darcy say in Pride & Prejudice.

The roots to monogamy are buried in religion. MEN wanted to make sure they were the fathers of the children they were raising. Since it was men, it makes sense that many religions are very self-serving to MEN.

Peace.

Yet another concept that religion has instilled.

However, even as an atheist I don't support more than one partner. Human beings aren't hard wired to be able to share our lives with more than one person. Jealousy plays too big a role, as does feeling slighted and left out. The psychological effects left on the parties involved aren't worth the pleasure the man gets out of having his cake and eating it too.

Man.

I think it was to keep the society patriarchal. If polygamy and polyandry was allowed, the question of paternity of children would be irrelevant. So the concept of family would be driven by the female and hence the female would be considered important.

both!! men because if a woman has a baby and the man supports it, he wants to know it' s his. And woman because they need to know the man will stick around to support it (there are many many more reasons now, but these are the basics)

Likely males, for the purposes of inheritance (land, especially). You always know who a child's mother is (at least at birth) but one cannot always tell who a child's father is. Beyond that, the decrease of polygyny (having multiple wives) occurs for several factors, including decreased child and infant (and adult male) mortality, decreased available land, and a shift to different modes of production.

It was probably some dude trying to impress a chick he was going after. Something like, "I would even go as far as not seeing anyone but you if you're mine". Word got out, and then it became the standard.

Dude completely ruined it for everyone.
