We only see her on weekends, so even if we make her do it, her mom doesn't enforce it at home. Im afraid she might get some kind of infection. I dont know what to do to make her start using toilet paper. She won't flush either.

My daughter did the same thing.. I went out and bought kando wipes that can be flushed and kando soap..to get her to wash her hands afterward.. you can also try regular toilet paper for kids..
I think Charmin makes it.

Very common - my 5 and 8 yr old neices both don't wipe or flush regulary. My sister said that in the restrooms at the elem. school, every toilet shows this same problem. They're always peed in and no TP. I think just continual reinforcement. They'll eventually get it, we all did. Sometimes my girls complain of a "burning peepee" and they just have to hop in the tub and wash it out. When that happens is a good time to remind them why they need to wipe. :)

If it makes you feel any better, I have a 5 year old that does the same thing! Supervise her. Let her use the bathroom in peace and when you thinks she's close to being finished, watch her to make sure she wipes herself. Its REALLY hard with little girls. Explain to her that if she doesn't want to be "stinky" that she must wipe herself and wash her hands. Try buying some disposable wipes and giving her a couple to take home.

Well, I guess someone should be escorting her to the washroom and teaching her how to do this. Not only will it cause an infection, but her underwear gets wet and she will start to get stinky!!!!
The problem is, that is her MOTHER'S job, and as the stepmom, you would be uncomfortable and really it isn't your place. Besides, it's no good when she will just go home and all your work won't be enforced! Someone has to talk to the mother, and tell her to do this. That is all you could do...sorry!

I would definatley talk to the mother and explain the consequence of her getting infections and stuff on her butt. Make a game of it some how. Have her flush and sing a song maybe. If she doesnt take regular baths thats gonna stink. Maybe there are other issues

I remember back in around 2ed Grade, I did not wipe after a pee because I thought I was saving the TP, and also time. It wasn't til some of the mean girls in school started making comments like 'Do you wipe?" that I got a clue. The phase didn't last long for me. Little girls can be very mean.

I had this same problem with my step-daughter!!! She is six now, but I noticed it when she was five, too. I simply sat down with her and told her she must wipe and I told her to wipe from front to back, etc. I spoke firmly but compassionately and made sure she understood that this was a requirement and that if I discovered she had not began to wipe as we discussed, she would lose privileges. I knew she was old enough to understand that this is just something that she must begin to do. I never had another problem with the issue (that I caught).

My kids did the same thing, so I bought the moist wipes for kids and set them in the bathroom, they loved them and started using them all the time. As for the flushing thing, my kids still do that sometimes hopefully they will grow out of that soon.

I have been working on this same problem with my six year old. She says she doesn't like to stay in the bathroom that long by herself so I have Put one of her favorite dolls in the bathroom to "hold" her special tp box and this seems to be helping alot. Maybe her mother isn't aware that you think this is a concern and she is clueless on how to fix it also. So when you find something that works at your house mention it to her.
