I agree with with you on that. The teaching assistant shouldnt have worn the veil in the classroom. Its common knowledge that people cant 'hear' as well if they cant see your mouth, we all lip-read to an extent and when your teaching young children not only do you have that to think about but the need to be able to read facial expressions etc etc. Oh and how come she didnt wear the veil to the interview to get the job????
And the other case about the woman asked to remove the veil in court as the judge couldnt hear her. I dont see th eissue, she could have got a colleague to do it if she really didnt want to remove her veil. At the end of the day if people cant hear you then you need to do something abou it.
Having said that I am not 'against' veils, but why do some woment wear them not all? I have just come back from a Muslim country and didnt see a single woman wearing a veil, so it confused me (easily done)

To answer the first part, no i am not against the veil as long as the woman is wearing it while she is convinced, I am a christian, but I believe that every body has the right to do what he/she feels OK as long as no body is affected..
but answering the second part, Muslims always use the sentence "freedom of religion " when it comes to what they want, and prohibit anything when it is for others, it is to work for there only benefit..yes all the Islamic world went in anger for the veil issue, but anybody of them thought that in most Islamic countries, churches are not allowed to put a cross on top?? where is the freedom of religion??

Doesn't every citizen in your country have equal rights? And I've visited England; there are plenty of English walking around, from what I saw. English people are the product of generations of invasion--Roman, Norman, Scandinavian, etc. So y'all can tolerate another layer. If there's a shortage of English people, it's probably because a good many of them are working in NYC.
With all that said, I think a headscarf is fine, but a face veil seems to be unnecessary according to the Koran, and it's a bit intimidating for others. It also obscures the woman's true identity. It could be that her husband or father wouldn't let her work without it, but if they're that controlling, they'll probably cause trouble down the road anyhow.

You've mixed up a number of issues in your somewhat rambling question which makes it hard to answer. I'll stick to the main point - do i agree with wearing the veil?
Yes i do. It is part of Islam - an optional part - but it is in the Koran nonetheless. Therefore who is anyone to anyone else, 'no, sorry, we like this part, and that part of Islam, but we dont want this veil part'??......You cant start picking and choosing which parts of a religion you will allow and which you wont.
The school-teacher thing was a different issue - yes, it was just stupidity to try to teach english whilst wearing the veil, and in any case it does not need to be worn around children.
If you are going to have a secular society, then you cat start picking and choosing which parts of relion you acept - its all or nothing, and as we have welcomed Muslims into our fold, we must accept all of their beliefs - not just the ones we find familar to our Western culture - the ones we find alien and even distasteful too.

It's so sad the Brits are spending precious time and energy on false debates and silly discussions on issues like the Muslim dress code when they should be addressing real pressing issues like poor academic achievements among the white population (which is partly to blame for the mounting bigotry and racism in UK). So sad, really, and, instead of re-directing public attention to questions of relevance and pertinence, some politicians are adding fuel to fire, catering to the feel-minded and the zombies of the country.

Yes! I definitely agree with wearing a veil because through my veiling i'm obeying my Lord. This land (the whole of earth and universe) belong to Allah, so why should anyone stop His Slaves from obeying Him?
It doesn't matter where i live. And lack of communication is the weakest excuse i've heard. Veiling does not cause trouble in comunication. It's just a piece of cloth. I can perfectly hear and so can the other person.
And Allah knows best!

Freedom of religion and freedom of expression. However, it is possible to wear the head covering without the veil so as to be able to do your job. Just be smart about it, I'm not going to wear a shirt that says "I heart Jesus" into a mosque.

You are wrong. The teacher was not found wearing veil in a her classroom. If you find someone wearing a veil to be uncomfortable to watch,it is because you are not used to such costumes. If you think you are going to make Muslims comfortable by giving them rights which is against their religious belief you are going to fail.

IF a woman freely chooses to wear the veil, that is her perogative. She should be aware that her choice may have negative consequences and be prepared to accept them. I agree, we are becoming far too "Politically correct." To the point of loosing our own rights. A school has the right to set dress codes. None would let me teach just wearing an atheltic supporter, would they? I hope not.

I agree seeing that France is not a muslim nation so that they will have to have the correct to prohibit it. If Muslims are very outraged approximately this determination, then they are able to go away France. France is not going to bend their regulations only for one faith. If Muslims can not abide by means of the nations regulations, then why are they dwelling there?
