Just like any profession, it depends on what you want out of it. The brooks institute of photography is a very well known commercial school. The important thing is what you get out of it. A good way to strike a balance is finding a university with a good fine arts program with a strong concentration in photography and learning about the theory as well as the technique. Then, through relationships you build in the professional community, balance it with learning from working professionals. Studying and working in the field are completely different things.

Well, I've heard good things about NYIP, but I chose a school in Oklahoma City, OK called Oklahoma School of Photography. It is a 7-9 month course and you can take photoshop as well. It was wonderful! I learned so much and had lots of fun. The teachers, staff and students were all great. Good luck to you!

New York Institute of Photography. It's a correspondence school, but for only $700ish you get books, tuition, other materials. It's fantastic! www.nyip.com
