Im moving back to Ireland after being away for 5 years. I work in the hotel and catering industry, bartending, waitressing. What are the wages like now and how much should I ask for?

Ireland has several times been named as the country with the highest standard of living in the world.
That means were EXPENSIVE.
However the MINIMUM wages is 8.75 and we are open to workers (with 150,000 immigrants right now).
To be honest, they might be emplying foreign workers and the young for your type of industry so you might get around 10 Euros an hour.
All types of taxes will take up around 35% of your wages but Ireland has low unemployment and you will definitely get a good living.

The VAT rate is 21%. Ireland is very very expensive to live in. You may find that it is difficult to get a job as there are a lot of people from Lithuania, Poland, Russia, etc.
Good luck in your search but be sure you want to return home, shopping is expensive and the house prices have soared.

Ireland is ok for a holiday if you take plenty of money. Living there is not so good. Low wages, sky high cost of living, and its always bloody raining. Stay where you are.

The minimum wage is currently EUR 7.65 an hour, with most lounge-staff and waiting staff earning between minimum wage and EUR 8.80 an hour, depending on experience.
