do you prefer real mashed potatoes or the instant potatoes?

i like real potatoes better but some of the instant brands like potato buds are really good. is it worth the effort to go through the extra hassle for a good meal?

Well....if you can't decide, I can tell you that my grandmother made fantastic mashed potatoes at thanksgiving for a huge crowd...her secret?

She mixed box-made potatoes with homemade mashed potatoes....1/2 & 1/2. I think she usually did it to stretch the recipe once she found out there were a lot more mouths to feed at the last minute.

They were really good. I personally can taste the difference between buds and the real thing. I prefer the real thing, but like I said, the half half thing is perfectly yummy.

I prefer the instant potatoes better as they are easy to make and depending on the brand tastes just like real mashed potatoes. I find the Betty Crocker brand the best. I add 2 tbs. of butter and add 1/2 cup less water. It makes it creamier. It also give you more time to spend with family and friends.

I prefer the real, home made mashed potatoes. They are worth the extra effort, especially for a good meal.

Dress 'em up by using some sour cream in place of the milk, stirring in some cheese, crumbled bacon and chives.

Real Mashed Potatoes taste better & more authentic, but they take extra time and effort.
Instant brands taste decent and are, well, instant.

Yeah, but you can buy good instant mashed potatoes. I love the mashed potatoes with peelings. It is less hassle, because you don' t have to peel them.

I prefer real mashed potatoes. I don't think they are much of a hassel to make and the taste is sooo much better then the fake ones.

I love real potatoes the powdered and in the box thing just isn't natural. I feel like an astronaut eating the fake stuff.

Absolutely! And for very special occasions, I cook my potatoes in milk instead of water and then use the liquid in my gravy. It makes a HUGE difference in the potatoes and the gravy. My family really loves these potatoes.
