Anyone who saw the do it yourselfer type tat my ex had would think twice. I've seen tats from even experienced artists that I would not have on my body.
It's permanent, people! Even laser removal is not like some magic eraser... Also, your skin is made to be a barrier between your vulnerable insides and the germy world - puncturing your skin repeatedly without the proper knowledge to do so safely is asking for trouble... so think about that when you look for an artist, and NEVER do it yourself or let any other amateur ink you up.

to finally answer your easily question, no you may no longer basically initiate doing drawings for them or sweeping up and poof you're an apprentice. in the adventure that your community shop is 40 minutes away, that's clever to pass closer, while you're severe approximately tattooing. you would be probably to spend extraordinarily much 2 years on the shop open to close. no longer making any money. extremely paying them. it may value everywhere from 1000 to 10,000 dollars. i'm specific you get what you pay for. yet I even have seen human beings pay 5,000 for an apprenticeship upfront and then the guy have been given fired and left city with this youngsters money. so be careful. finally you will might desire to purchase your man or woman kit. your mentor can stear you contained in the main appropriate course so a approaches as what's crap and what's professional. do no longer skimp on your kit. any artist/craftsman will inform you that. and till you're making this your existence it is going to constantly be no longer something greater desirable than a pastime. get severe or get out.

well it's different for everybody but most artists learn from other tattoers. they get an apprenticeship like yoji on miami ink. you watch and learn by watching. it's a long process. but it also helps to have some artistic ability beforehand anyway. there are of course people who tattoo themselves who have no ability whatsoever and i'm pretty sure they don't care if their tattoos look great or not. it's always wise to look at a portfolio beforehand to be sure what you're getting.

you have to learn art basics first. you can pretty much do that at any community college. then get an intern. its pretty rough. first you have to find a shop that will take you in and then you have to pay lots of money. you don't tattoo for a very long time. you just sketch and draw and eventually move on to pig skins. you do not tattoo people for at least a year (unless someone agrees to be a guinea pig)

Most of the good tattoo artists are just that artists. It takes a good eye, an artistic drawing talent, and years of practice. Watch Miami Ink on TLC and you will find out.

I am a victim of tattoo apprectice nightmare! I am an artist---sprouting many tattoos of my own---I decided Last JULY 2005 to seek out a local shop and apprectice to learn the trade. These guys took me for $6746.00. (i paid in full with a Credit CARD)---After taking my $$$ they stuck me in a room---told me to draw and draw and draw---leaving me to my own devices---No instruction, no input--no nothing---they took me hook line and sinker! In confronted them the middle of August last year and let them know I wasn't happy and let them also know that I wanted to learn---not be stuck in a room without instruction or input! They more or less told me to damn bad---Well....I contacted the Credit Card co---had my $$$ refunded to me but I didn't ask for the entirety of the $6746.00----I reimbursed these jerks $1500.00 for 4 weeks of nothing!----In February 2006 I was served papers suing me for the balances of the apprenticeship----Thank GOD I work for a LAW FIRM----Do you know this has not been settled yet? Next court date is DECEMBER 4, 2006----only to be continued again and again and again and again!!
I also got taken in September 2005----After receiving my $$$ back from the credit card place I went to another shop to give it another chance...This time I paid $4000.00----CAN you believe it----5 weeks into the apprecticeship I went over on a Sunday to work in the shop----only to find it locked up tight and the whole place had been cleaned out lock stock and barrel! I once again had used my Credit Card---did the whole dispute thing---got my money back ect.!
Little did I know-----the owner of the other shop was related to the owner of the new shop----Do you smell a rat???? I sure do now!

I work as a professional body piercer and I am currently learning how to tattoo. So yes, I know about how to tattoo the correct way.
And I agree with you, its scary to think so may people want to self tattoo and pierce themselves when they should know its not safe or wise.
