There were 2 coppers on bicycles near my office earlier, and their bikes were sponsored by Smith & Wesson: the arms manufacturer!! Does anyone else think this is kinda sick?

I dont agree with the nutcases who say 'everyones gotta own a gun, yeee haaa!!'. This is London where police dont carry guns (exept armed response units & security for important buildings). Gun crime is on the up, and the police dont need to encourage it by advertising their 'weapon of choice'.

I'm a cycle trained London police officer. It's not sponsorship, Smith and Wesson are the manufacturers.
It's no different to having Vauxhall on the back of the cars or Mercedes on the back of the Sprinter vans.

Many police department's bicycles are made by Smith and Wesson. That's right, the people who make teh guns also make bikes. The name is no different than having Ford on the Crown Vic's we drive. Here is a website to check it out:

Smith and Wesson is at the present time not only manufacturing firearms, but they are a machine shop operation for industry, and can produce anything you can imagine. They have been making police bikes for over a decade.

The police aren't encouraging gun crimes by using bikes made by Smith & Wesson. That really is a stretch. I think your problem is with the police in general. They will never do right by you.

Smith & Wesson make a lot of metal products beside guns, including bicycle frames.

I do not think that the name on the bikes has anything to do with your question. I think that you are just negative on the police and no matter what they do you would be against them. I hope that you are able to take care of anything that comes your way, and never need any help.

Did ya think maybe, just maybe, they make bikes too? It's not like they are going to hit you with the bike or anything. I suppose you think Schwinn should take their name off bikes as well. What kind of question is that? Maybe Ford should take Police Interceptor off of the Vic
