There are at least two ways to look at that idea.
1. 'Birds' may have a hard time seeing 'something better' if their vision is limited to 'like feathers'.
2. To be pure and holy; ones may not want 'inferior feathers' around them.
Peace Be With You.

It depends on what you mean by "birds of a feather". If you're talking about ethnicity (physical 'feathers'), then NO. The color of our 'feathers' matter not:

1. "O CHILDREN OF MEN! Know ye not why We created you all from the same dust? That no one should exalt himself over the other. Ponder at all times in your hearts how ye were created. Since We have created you all from one same substance it is incumbent on you to be even as one soul, to walk with the same feet, eat with the same mouth and dwell in the same land, that from your inmost being, by your deeds and actions, the signs of oneness and the essence of detachment may be made manifest. Such is My counsel to you, O concourse of light! Heed ye this counsel that ye may obtain the fruit of holiness from the tree of wondrous glory."

However, if you are talking about spiritual 'feathers', then YES:

2. "O SON OF DESIRE!
Give ear unto this: Never shall mortal eye recognise the everlasting Beauty, nor the lifeless heart delight in aught but in the withered bloom. For like seeketh like, and taketh pleasure in the company of its kind.

If you are refering to religious differences, NO:

3. "The second Taraz is to consort with the followers of all religions in a spirit of friendliness and fellowship, to proclaim that which the Speaker on Sinai hath set forth and to observe fairness in all matters."

2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
