Checked that cordless phone is charged and working. Landline extension phone works fine from same socket.

Did you plug in the base station? If the handset has to be mated with the base station, have you done that?

OK if old style touch tone landline phone works fine but cordless does not then the phone line itself is fine. You need to makre sure that 1) cordless base is plugged in and hoioked up to phone line. 2) the cordless phone has mated with it's base (hang it up on base)

If so and no dial tone check your cordless options to make sure it is not muted. If all options check out then seems cordless phone would be defective

When you first get a cordless phone the battery is not charged.
Plug the base holder into a socket and let it charge overnight.
It should be working the next day.

Also check the on/off switch to make sure switch is on.

If the new phone has a speakerphone, see if that works. Also see if the new phone works in another jack - one you KNOW works.
Telephone jacks have 4 wires. For a regular phone only 2 are needed for dialtone, plus another for the ringer. My guess is the 4th wire is disconnected.
