I think most people would agree that it's impossible to kick out all the illegal immigrants, so it's important to decriminalize them to some extent. We should stop illegal immigrants at the borders. We need to know who is entering and leaving our country.

Former Mayor Guilliani had some good points on this issue. He said that while mayor of NYC, the low estimate was that 200,000 of his residents were illegal immigrants, and that the US gov was removing 2000 a year. He could have chosen to criminalize all of them, but that would have led to pandamonium. How would you control a small-city's worth of unemployed "criminals"? So instead he worked to get everyone in NYC "on the books," paying taxes and supporting our country.

So instead you work with what you have and make it better. I think that's your whole intent as you seek to help the illegal immigrants who are here, but I would not support helping them come to this country.

We accepted illegals in the 80's, and are paying for that mistake ever since. All we did was encourage more to keep coming.
We have got to try to round them all up, and sent them back on their merry way. But rather than just take them over the border, I'm for taking them as far as the other side of Mexico, and let them make their way back to their true homes.
Someone stated that Hitler managed to round up all the Jewish people, and as much as I hate the comparison, we can do the same with the illegals - if we would only begin!

thumbs down.

Actually, if you listen to the real debate, that's what the anti-illegal immigrant side has said all along. It's not about opposing immigration, it's opposing ILLEGAL immigration! If those entering the country illegal would just file the necessary paperwork and immigrate legally, and thereby fall under laws to contribute into our system to support the people, problem solved. But some people want the easy way out and desire to circumvent the process. What do we do with those people?

Amnesty has already been tried. It only encouraged more illegals to come here.
And I am not just talking about Mexico. There are people from all over the world who either stay after their visa expires or get smuggled here like the hundreds of thousands who come from China every year.
I would like to see all of them removed, and anyone who aids, abets, or smuggles them in receive major prison sentences.
And if they actually supported our country, it might not be as bad, but what most people from Mexico do is live 20 people to a one bedroom apartment, and save as much as possible to send back to Mexico via Western Union.
Would you want to live in an apartment next to one with 20 people in it?
Do you want to see our economy further drained by Mexican nationals sending US dollars back to Mexico, while they overburden our emergency rooms, jails, law enforcement services, and schools and DON'T PAY for any of these services?
Send them back, build a wall, and start defending our borders.

We are talking about ILLEGAL immigration. If it were stopped at the border, if we stopped employing them and if benefits to illegals were removed, the illegals here would slowly either go back of their own accord, or take the necessary steps to become legal. I don't see why it would be necessary to "go after them", the system would sort itself out eventually. First though, zero tolerance at the border.

I like Giuliani's plan as long as adequate steps are taken to stem the tide crossing the border now. I also think that the governmental leaders of Mexico should be persuaded (coerced if necessary) to stop encouraging all these people from swarming the border.

I just cant agree with you. If America accepts those who are already here, we set up a standard for more illegals to enter and CLAIM they have been here "long enough", and who can prove they are lying? We would also be selling ourselves out! Saying, "Ok, since you already broke our laws, but not too bad, since as far as we know you havent killed anybody, raped or stole, its OK for you to be here, since you got away with crossing the border illegally, and not getting caught. Don't bring anymore of your family over here, PLEASE, because they won't be let it, OH! Theyre already here, but in another state? Oh ok, then, they can stay, too! We believe you will be upstanding citizens NOW< since you only broke ONE American law that we know of so far! Congratulations on missling USA! You are to be REWARDED! Here is a US citizens job for you, since you'll take less money, and the job doesn't have to be performed exactly correct. Have some food stamps while you're here, we'll pay for it all! Don't forget if you get a cold to go to the hospital, its free of charge for you, since you can't pay for it. The citizens who still have jobs will pay for it! Happy raping of America!"
I as an American citizen, my family history dating back to before the Mayflower, am against illegals, 100%!

The trouble with that idea is that it would encourage more illegals. Once they know that as long as they can "make it in" they'll be OK, what's to stop them then?
Also, I want to add that this would be grossly unfair to those who made sacrifices and patiently waited their turn to come to America LEGALLY.

They tried that in the 80s thinking it would slow the flow...but all it did was encouragwe more..to sit it out and wait for the next round of amnesty.
