I guess about 15-20GB would do the trick.....
I have managed to run Red Hat linux with only 5GB, but it kind of limits the possibility....

Maybe you should consider running a host with a virtyal machine. Then you don't have to divide your HD....

Check out the possibility with VMWare....
I've tried it, works fine. But I've only tested with Windows XP, running a virtual linux (Red hat).....

Mac OS X is Linux? No. Mac OS X is a flavor of Unix just as Linux is a flavor of Unix. When you open Terminal, you have a Free BSD Unix shell, not a Linux shell.

You can install Red Hat on a Mac? I didn't know that. I thought you needed Yellow Dog Linux. Bad name choice if you are Muslim or Chinese but we're stuck with it. For YDL, you would need 5-10GB of space, depending on the version. You should calculate extra applications that you might want to install and add that to the space needed. So, maybe 10-15 GB is a better choice, depending on the version of YDL. But if you want to use video files... maybe 20-30GB.

Um, if you have a recent MAC and are using the MAC OSX, that IS Linux... it is Debian Linux for that matter. Look in the Utilities folder under the Tools section for "Terminal" - that is the Linux shell for OSX. Just fire it up and start issuing your Linux commands right from there.
