i am wondering why dirty pictures keep popping up on my daughter and son in laws computer.they have 2 children who need to use it for schoolwork but they need someone with them.i was told by someone that the reason those pictures are popping up is because those sites have been visited.i am not going to mention this to them but they can only use it at certain times because he says he is cleaning it out.any help or advice will be appreciated.

Tell your soninlaw to clean up the computer, now!
He needs a Clean Sweep or something that stops pop up ads..
sometimes a Trojan can get into the machine by just visiting one site and then they are forever to clean them out of there.
And yes mention it to them because you don't want their kids being exposed to that garbage. If you think you are being a good motherinlaw by not saying anything your not...secrets like that are evil.

I visit porn sites and never get those popups. My son visits gaming sites and those popups happen all the time.

It's the fringe sites that have those popups, gaming sites, gambling sites, shady software sites. If your already visiting the porn site they don't need to advertise to you.

Use Mozilla or Firefox and make use of the popup blocker and cookie blocker. Pay special attention to the "Third party cookies". Limit the session time that cookies can stay on your computer.

If you do banking cookies need to be enabled for that site but you can limit to that session.

There are a host of other things you can do but can become VERY technical. Contrary to a lot of what you hear, the Internet is not as dangerous as they are saying.

I ran Win 98 without virus protection or a firewall for a year without any problems, till my son got on and f**ked that up within a week.

Common sense, common sense, common sense, that's all you need

I've heard the same thing about popups.. I've also heard that it's b/c someone has visited that site, but I don't think that's necessarily always true!! I think the best way would be to maybe clean it out and put some spyware for kids on it, that way it stops those things from popping up!! Good luck

Maybe try a pop-up blocker and get the parents to clean out their cookies, cached sites at the end of the day, and get a good virus screener. Lots of these porn sites come through as virus attachments.

Problem could be 2-fold.

1. Internet garbage
2. Garbage already stored on the pc

So yes, he needs to clean out what's on the computer for sure and install a filtering program to keep new stuff from popping up. Try

usually someone shows some interest in it for them to show up. I suggest you clean out the computer cookies, & get a child protection program on there!
