first of all how old are you and how much do you weigh?
most normal adults can handle 800 milligrams every 8 hours
second of all if the toothache is caused by infection then you will need an antibiotic or ibuprofen will only take the edge of and it will keep on. see if your dentist would be willing to call you in a prescrition for an antibiotic until your appt. most should be more than willing to do so. if he won't your primary care physician may do it if you call and explain the situation.

Over the counter Ibuprofen comes as 200 mg. I would recommend taking 200-400mg every 4-6 hours, if it does not get better, you can up the dose to 3 tablets each time. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory, it will help ease the pain. Honestly, I am a pharmacist, I would recommend that you take tylenol as well. 250-500 mg every 4-6 hours, not at the same time as the ibuprofen. Just make sure that you do not take TOO much Tylenol- it can cause toxicity if overdosed.

800mg is prescription strength. That would be 4 Advil or Motrin. And don't take it any more than once every 6-8 hours. And DO NOT TAKE ON AN EMPTY STOMACH! EAT WITH FOOD! Taking the high dose without food can be very damaging to your stomach.

I would take 600 mg of ibuprofen, which is usually 3 Motrin pills - but you should always check the label!

I don't think they would give an epidural for a nerve toothache so my vote is on labor! :)
