I think that you are worried to much as the transmission of diseases through trying on clothing or shoes is not an issue in the normal setting. You must never try a bathing suit on without leaving your own undies on, nor should you try and shoe on without a sock or footsie. You should never try anything on that is damp or wet. I have never run into anything that I would not see fit to try on, so I would say you have nothing ot worry about. If you do have a phobia about this then order all your clothing from the internet or catalog. But, remember, don't try the mailed items on without wearing proper garments so that in the event you are returning them, YOU won't be spreading something.

Do you suffer from OCD? Trying on regular clothing won't hurt you. Just follow the rules, like no bathings suits without underwear.

That generally why they make you wear socks or stocking when trying on shoes, why you need to keep your own underwear on when trying on underwear and bathing suits.
I've never contracted anything while trying on pants, shirts, or dresses, etc. I think it's fairly safe otherwise, they wouldn't let us try stuff on.
