Lately, it seems that I am always tired. I was just wondering if someone could give me advice on what vitamins I could take, and a diet that I could eat that would boost my energy and metabolism and help me to loose a little weight, while giving me energy so that I dont feel like falling asleep right when I get home from work. I am sure the cold weather is not helping me......

Thanks for any help!

Get tested for diabetes as this is a common reason for lack of energy. If you are eating a sensible balanced diet you should not need any supplements :D

No one can tell you what vitamins you should take without knowing about your medical background. Excessive amounts of some vitamins or any vitamins taken with some medicines will lower the effectiveness of those medicines, like synthroid or levothroxin.
A good balanced diet, low in red meats and fats, will give you the most energy. Drink water and none fuctose high corn syrupy drinks. Lay off of caffiene after noon, and try to tak a long walk once a day.
If cold weather is getting you down, make sure it isn't a SAD type reaction to less sunlight. Even if you don't think its the light affecting your mood, try sitting next to open windows and areas. If you are working under florescent lights, see if you can put an incandescent one at your desk to supplement the wavelenths.

Set a goal to finish when you get home.
Sometimes we think we are exhausted and indulge in it, when actually we are bored and depressed that nothing in our lives is exciting. You can make life exciting through change in your routine. Paint a room you wanted to paint at night, not on the weekends. Turn the tv off one night a week. Read and inspiring book. Plan travel for when you can afford it, by surfing the web for dream vacations.

Vitamins can make you tired if they are not balanced. They can also mask anemias. After you have a physical and have a doctor check your blood count, calcium levels, and check out for anemias; then you might try a multi vitamin with a Caltrate calcium supplement at supper. This will make you slightly sleepy at night, but should have you bursting to go in the morning. No vitamin works if taken on an empty stomach. Always drink plenty of fluids with vitamins.
Many sites are going to say you need lots of protein and less carbs. Carbs give lots of energy in a burst and are used by your body before anything else. Proteins are longer lasting energy without the sudden dips carbs will give you. Energy drinks are pure carbs. Zips you up for an hour or two then leaves you feeling sleepy and depressed. So if you eat lean protein and fiber-containing food like apples, sweet potatoes, greens, celerey, spinach, asparagus you will gain continuous energy, all the vitamins you need, none of the sugars that cause yeast infections and the like, and regularity that takes pressure off of your spine and lower organs.
But it is not easy to eat fish and vegtables, lean chicken and vegtables, lean pork and vegtables. or a complete vegatarian diet. It seems to cost more and take a lot more effort. But that course would probably "cure" you of any vitamin deficiency, increase hormonal stability, and increase your energy.
If it doesn't, you need to start worrying if you have sleep apnea or some thyroid problem. Sometimes lack of energy has nothing to do with your diet.
Keeping a journal of your diet, activities and feelings for a month will probably point out what ails you.
Good luck! We all could use some more energy, especially since we seem to be plugged into these computers 8 hours a day.

I have to recommend a book called "The Fat Flush System" by Anne Louise Gittleman, who is a doctor who was part of the Pritikin team. She recommends that for a couple of weeks you clean yourself of coffee, sodas, refined foods-- good advice regardless of anything else.
She also recommends adding more quality protein to your diet-- l think seafood is the best--for energy and because it will help you shed a few pounds.
The type of protein is important-- in other words, don't load up on greaseburgers and cheese. I personally recommend high protein
milkshakes and protein bars. You especially need to start the day
with energy food.
Take a well-balanced vitamin-- go to a GNC or a health food store and speak w someone there.
When there is less light in the fall and winter, it's a natural tendency to want to sleep more, I think.

Eating more protein may help- carbs burn fast and you crash sooner, but protein digests more slowly, so you may feel energized longer (and fuller longer too). Turkey and chicken are good low fat protein choices, and they can be made in a bunch of different ways (easy ways too like sandwiches, soups for the chilly days). You could be anemic so maybe a visit to the doctor isn't a bad idea. You can still tweak your diet but at least know you are starting off with basic good health.

if your not exercising then no amount of vitamins and food will make you feel better. For sure take a multi vitamin, one that is made from 100% food, it wil say on the bottle that it can be taken on an empty stomach..those are the best...exercise and dont eat 4-6 hrs b4 you go to bed.....drink lots of water also........
