You will learn Italian very quickly. I spoke spanish before and then moved to the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland...it was fairly easy to learn the language. But you are right, it gets confusing when switching between languages. I no longer can say that I speak spanish, cuz Italian words come out instead. Understanding both languages is simple, but unless you frequently use both Languages, you could find yourself in my position. But don't fret, it takes a short time to get all of it back when you are re-immersed into the language. Questa lingua e bellissima!! Non smettere di impararla! Ma anche devi imparare le segni degli mani!! Gotta learn the hand signals...they are essential to the language. You can't speak Italian if you can't speak it with your hands :)

Yes, and am learning Spanish so I sympathise. Right now I sound like an Italian speaking Spanish.
Have you studied any Latin? I find if I know where the similarities originate, I don't get so confused.
BTW, watch out for the 'burro' trap: catches a lot of people out who can speak both languages.

I speak a similar language -- Spanish
The Spanish knowledge is not confusing you. Italian is slightly, only slightly more complex than Spanish is.
Note that many Italian speakers can understand Spanish pretty well. If you're not sure of a certian word, use your knowledge of Spanish.

Ciao Sunshine, come va?
Yes, I speak a bit of Italian. It took three years to get from knowing nothing to getting the GCSE, and it was well worth it. Italiano e la lingua piu bella del mondo - secondo me!
Keep at it.
