What amazes me is that most of the posts on here jumped on the ALLEGED rape, torture and murder case. That's not what I read in the question at all. I don't see anything about that case in this question. It's funny how easy it was for everyone to jump all over a bad incident instead of finding the good. That's much like our news. We do good in Iraq everyday. We never see that reported. Let just one questionable thing happen and the news is all over it. After that, you idiots are all over it like flies on sh*t. Don't be so quick to judge and convict our military.

First and foremost, EVERYONE is innocent until proven guilty. There will be a trial for those accused of those crimes. IF they are found guilty, they will be punished properly. Since it's a military crime, they'll be punished more severely than any civilian ever is.

Now, in relation to the question, if someone from the military is on trial (being court martialed), there is doubt as to whether or not they did their job properly. Yes, they are shot at and attacked on a regular basis. However, there is proper procedure for how they're supposed to respond and handle the situation. If there's doubts or questions to that, they'll be court martialed. If they're innocent, they'll go back to their jobs and if guilty, they're punished by appropriate means to the crime.

The longer this war goes on, the more I have to agree, Americans are crazy. They don't support their troops. They believe every BAD piece of news reported. They fall victim to all the propaganda out there. You see it on Y! Answers all the time. A question will be asked about Iraq and a soldier or famiy member will reply and other answerers will tell them they're lying or they just don't believe it. Perfect example is when military says they are doing good in Iraq and it's not about oil and so on. The general American public will argue tooth and nail, yet that miltary person is there and on the front line. America is truly in a sad state right now.

I wonder, do they realize just how much their ignorance is tearing the country and military apart?!?!

I've been to Iraq and Afghanistan and have done my job well in both places and headed back again. If a military person is brought up on charges and punished under UCMJ or Court Marshalled he or she wasn't doing their job they were committing a crime and should be punished. I US Army and don't mind seeing my peers punished for doing wrong. I hate it that its a media field day. A soldier was convicted for Rape and is being sentenced soon. The media is eating it up. The terrible part is women in Iraq are safer from rape than a woman on a college campus in the states. But that's just not good press. How many rapes occur in the world on a daily basis? How many do you hear about. I'm not trying to minumize any of them but why does the the soldier end up in the news and the others don't?

There are, very unfortunatly, bad Soldiers with bad intensions in the Military. More unfortunate when one of these bad seeds does something ilegal and morally wrong, people say " the ARMY is currupt, the ARMY is doing this the ARMY is doing that. The fact is it is an INDIVIDUAL or a FEW bad apples making the rest of us doing the right thing look bad! When 1 or 2 Drill sergeants were found guilty of using their power to sleep with female privates, the headlines were ARMY DRILL SERGEANTS, not SGT. "JOE SMITH" from the Army. It is a form of media hype that hurts the reputation of good, honest, dependable young men and women in our GOD BLESSED MILITARY. Just hope you can see past the HYPE and take these no good doers as INDIVIDUALS.

We are there to do a job and like with all jobs, there are rules that need to be adhered to. It is hard sometimes to try to tell the difference between the local population and the enemy, but it is a Soldiers responsibility to only engage combatants. When Soldiers start to do what ever they want, to whoever...that is when the structure of the U.S. Army begins to breakdown. I sympathize with any Soldier who through an honest mistake kills an innocent, but for those of them that intentionally and willfully do wrong, they are getting justice. I was mobilized for 18 months over there, so I do know what I am talking about.

Geese. I thought we were going to liberate "Our friends" the Iraqi people!!

I didn't think it was to go out and murder people for fun, rape 14 year olds and then murder a child's sister in front of him!

They should be court martialed and be put to death!

There is no place in combat, where I spent a year, to kill innocent children and rape them! We didn't do it on a basis that it has occurred in Iraq because your leader has given his tacit approval to torture!

My question is what kind of people are you training! If they did that in Vietnam they wouldn't have to worry about a court martial, especially after 2 from their unit were kidnapped and murdered!! They would never make it back to the states!

It is the need of the US to be so PC and it sucks. OK I understand that it is wrong for our military to rape but if they kill someone they thought presented a threat so be it. Our government ask them to do a job no one wants and then ties their hands and makes them live with the fear that if the enemy doesn't get them the US courts will. It is a show for the rest of the world driven by the liberals in our government( both Dem's and reps). IT makes me sick to see our soldgiers put into this kind of crap. The terrorist are not covered by the Geneva Convention as they are not a uniformed military and also Iraq did not sign the damn thing anyway so if they do not agree to live by it why should they be afforded its protections.

In any group, soliders included, you are going to have some bad apples. 99.99% of American service people are wonderful people who risk their lives in the call of duty. .01% will use any excuse to do things over in Iraq that they would be tried and put in jail for here in the USA. I believe that if 99.99% does not/will not do something, that the .01% is wrong and needs to be made an example of. The American soliders in Iraq are in a different culture and we have to decide what part of our culture we can inflict on prisioners. For example, Iraq has used torture to get information from their prisioners, I do not believe in that. I believe that it is OK to strip them down and make fun of them trying to break their will so that our intelligence officers can get info from them (however, the Iraq people do not believe that this is right). BOTTOM WORD, IF 99.99% OF OUR SOLIDERS WOULD NOT DO SOMETHING, THEN THE .01% IS WRONG TO DO IT AND SHOULD BE PUNISHED.

No...I agree with you. What has happened to these men is shameful. The American government is looking to make examples out of them and that's why they're making such a big deal out of things. The soldiers in Abu were doing what they had to to get information out of prisoners. Humiliation is a form of interrogation- end of story. We're not aloud to hit or physically torture them for Intel. so humiliation and intimidation tactics are the worst we can do. Big freakin' deal. We didn't cut off anyone's head! And in Iraqi run prisons they use sodomy with re-bar to get prisoners to spill their guts.
The American people have grown weak. They're a bunch of bleeding hearts who don't understand that rough **** happens in war. If you're not over there fighting you have no right to pass judgment.

Discipline and smarts are needed by troops. Killing civilians is not sanctioned by the military. If troops are being court martialed, it is because they have been accused of crimes. Indiscriminate killing of civilians certainly falls into this category.

No one will be court martialed for protecting him or herself from attackers. There have been accusations of rapes and murders. These are not the actions of disciplined troops and it needs to be punished if true. All soldiers worth that title will agree.

A soldier takes an Oath of Allegiance and Honor, break either and they face Court Martial.
