No,

Early accounts of possession were more than likely mental illness that was either misdiagnosed or not diagnosed at all

You mean like invocation, yes, All religions have some sort of it going on. Christians gets possessed with what they call Christ. Many occultists and Sorcerers invoke spirits Gods and Demons to strengthen their psychic abilities or just to feel supernatural strength. It could be that it is real spiritual entities entering our bodies and mind for short periods of time or it could just be us entering our deep minds. It is believed that we only use 10% of our minds, by believing in 'possession' it might make us able to use the full 100% which would make us feel 'possessed' by a God or Spiritual entity. It might be both spiritual and psychological, that’s up to you to decide.

If God exists, then why wouldn't the devil and demons? After all there are dozens and dozens of scriptures that talk about it in Matthew, Mark, Luke and Acts.
Aside from that, It's safe to say more people than you think have encountered demonic possessions and things of that nature. It's not really coffee table conversation...so we don't hear of it very often. Plus I've found that people usually don't want to believe in things that terrify the crap out of them.

Yes, as unfortunately there are spirits of low entity who roam the earthplane and use a living body to manifest and feed on. Usually this is somebody with mental illness, depression, or somebody who is as low as they are and has done bad things. The reason they don't go up to the Light (spirit world or Heaven) is that they are afraid to face up to the bad deeds they have done on the earthplane. They can be helped by a good Medium though.

You can read about many examples in the Bible and it still exists today. Here are some examples of people who had problems in their lives caused by evil spirits, witchcraft, envy, curses.

These are not the Exorcist type of possession but some are normal everyday things the majority of people suffer with and they think this is part of life. In actual fact, when you or a doctor cannot solve a problem, it probably has a spiritual root to it.

You bet. We have so many possessions that we're considering having a House Cooling Party; each guest has to take something with them when they leave.

If you mean demons and such, that's for little kiddies. I hope you're not an adult...

people can be possessed with demons ,but its nothing like the TV shows when they portray this.neither is exorcism done the way we read and watch, but is done with Pentecostal born again ministers, not catholic priests or church of england. only by people who have a saving faith in jesus christ ,and the holy spirit which dwells in each believer, i could go into storys about possesion but i wont give satan the satisfaction of him gloating, but iwill give god the glory for setting these people free,

Yes absolutely.
The Bible even tells us that a man can be consumed by a demon, rid himself of it, and then if a man returns to his sinful ways the demon will return with I think it is 6 more demons.
I am not expert at quoting scripture

is a great site for finding ANYthing you need to know about the Bible, and any version of it
The man who recently barracaded himself in the Amish school and killed little girls then killed himself, I believe was possesed with demons.
Just an example.
I also think Excorcist stuff can happen too.

Yes I do, but saved people cannot be possessed. I took a demonology class one time and it was unreal how many unsaved people has been possessed. The preacher who taught the class told me of some he came incounter with. It wasn't like what you see on Tv either.

Since i believe there are pervasive evil forces in this world then my answer must be yes. However i think it happens in only a small number of cases. Many people name and claim demons in cases which are clearly just psychological disorders, albeit very complicated ones.
