Cat food is too rich for dogs. The occasional stealing from the cats bowl wont do much but upset the cat. However, a regular diet of cat food will make your dog sick.

Pets foods are formulated to meet the specific needs of your pet. Cat are naturally carnivores, therefore, they must have meat. Dogs are naturally omnivores, eating both meat and plants.

Cat food is very high in protein. Too high for dogs. Kittens and puppies needs more nutrients for their fast growing bodies and specific needs to be met, which is why they make kitten food, puppy food and even puppy food for small or large breeds, as they also differ. Senior cats and dogs have different dietary requirements also, so feeding a senior food when advised by your vet (usually after age 7) is recommended.

Dogs need different nutrients then cats so it's not really healthy for them to eat cat food.

Yes this is true. There is some kind of chemical in the cat food that will hurt a dog's kidneys.

If a dog eats a lot of catfood he can get kidney stones, as the protien level in catfood is much to high for him.
A cat fed exclusively dogfood will go blind and develop heart problems as dogfood lacks the taurine she needs.

My dog eats cat poop. "Kitty Cookies" as we call them, are a favorite treat of our Pug. We do not condone this - however, sometimes she gets in the closet and grabs a few before we catch her.

So to answer your question - who cares if the dog eats cat food, as long as it doesn't eat the poop.

Its not dangerous if they get ahold of it but dogs need to have their dog food for the different nutrients.
