If Scientology is a religion then absolutely. The force is far more a religious concept than Thetans and the underlying structure of Jedi easily more altruistic than the money-grabbing legacy of L. Ron Hubbard. Scientology is a cult, though. To give that recognised religion status is profoundly mistaken.
Back to Jedi, I suppose if enough of a formal structure was put to it there would be no reason to deny an official status. However, it is my understanding that the Jedi tend to be those who see flaws in the notion of social Religion, and whether or not _specifically_ recognising Jedi as a religion, rather than rethinking the whole idea, would be accepted as a result of this venture by its proponents remains to be seen.

I don't think it will ever make it but it is bloody hilarious that a country's people can be of the same mind to come together at census time and 390,000 of them register their religion as Jedi just for a laugh. Just goes to prove how off the wall the British sense of humour can be and that they can achieve anything if they put their minds to it
Maybe at the next census with a flurry of chain e-mails they can get 1,000,000 to register. Surely then it would have to get registered
Sure in Dublin some years ago one constituency had enough spoiled votes in the election to elect a puppet turkey from kids tv to parliament. Because the puppet wasn't a registered candidate he couldn't take up his rightfully won seat

Of course Judaism is a recognised religion, why do you ask?
What? Oh... THAT Jedi religion, well it's no different than the other Jedi religion.

Why not? I mean, Jedi is actually pretty similar to some of the Eastern religions - many of whom believe there's a Force in everything (Ki or Chi) that can be tapped. If they throw in a lightsaber, I'll be the first to sign up!

Just as long as you stay clear of the true masters and recognize you lesser place in the universe, therefore leaving the universe to eventual Sith rule as it is meant to be. you have much to learn young jedi, and do not realize the true power of the Sith.

The whole point of Jedi is that it doesn't take itself seriously and there's no money involved.
Scientology on the other hand is all about money.

Why not? Some of the current religions out there are bananas yet still accepted so respect should be given to any 'religion'.
