I like mine "à point" - that's French medium which is rarer than English medium.

The French ways of cooking are:
bleu (blue, raw)
saignant (bloody, more rare than English rare)
à point (French medium, English rare)
bien cuit (French well done, English medium)
comme un soulier (French ready for the bin, English well done, lit. "like a shoe")

...and I'm 53

Medium-rare for me everytime.

Browned on the outer yet still pinky-red with a bit of blood in the centre.

I've also found the best way of achieving this finish to a steak is by using a Gorgie Forman Grill!!!!!!

Well done or just below well done - I'm 35. My husband is 36 and would have medium to medium rare. We've got a 28 year old friend who has it blue!

I used to be a very rare, but since CJD have gone to rare if I know the restaurant or medium if not. 39
Too many cooks over cook now even if given the choice.

Medium rare - age 25

In response to someone who said most cooks will overcook their steaks - not in my experience. Most chefs I know will slightly undercook steaks so if it's not done enough they don't lose the whole steak which thye would if it was overdone (8 years restaurant experience)
