I advise my patients to use
Colgate Sensation Deep Clean Whitening
This has Bicarbonate of soda in it but does not have the strong taste that Arm and Hammer has.
It is very mildly abrasive, enough that it will remove staining but not damage the enamel on your teeth.
Beware of using Pearl Drops, Eucryl or other so called tooth polishes. They are too abrasive to be used regularly and make the staining worse eventually by roughening the enamel so the stain sticks all the more.
If it's any recommendation, I use this myself too!
p.s. Crest Whitening Strips are NOT available in the UK, the Americans have not been reading the questions again...........

look for one with peroxide...by and large the whitening you get is going to be minimal w/ toothpaste. Don't get your expectations up. The only way to really whiten is have the dentist do it, although Crest strips will produce at least a somewhat noticable difference.

Try Crest White strips! They really work. I use them. People always ask me how I have such white teeth even though I smoke. I bought them off ebay. Maybe Boots might sell them?
PS, I LIVE in the UK, if Flossybean had read my answer properly, she would have noticed I said I bought them off EBAY, which is WORLDWIDE. Idiot.

Good, old fashioned, Pearl Drops. There was something called, IIRC, Eucryl Smoker's Tooth Powder - you put a dab on a wet toothbrush - but I haven't seen it for years.

None can dramatically whiten your teeth! There is not enough of the activating ingredient in them to do that!

Colgate white strips. I do them once a year for vacation. Taste nasty if you swallow the gel though!
