Do you know how i can remove the white box that is the background for a clipart picture?
I want to use one of those sites where you upload graphics onto t-shirts and then they print it for you, but the guy said that i might see a haze around the graphic where the box would be.

I have adobe photoshop elements 4.0, but i am not the best with it. So detailed instructions would help alot. I know there is a 'remove background' tool, but when i try to upload that pic (that i 'removed' the background for) it does not show up on the net.

O SNAP SON! thats a perfect question, because im in commerical art class right now dealing with adobe illustration and photoshop so you asked the right question lol. What i would do is use the lasso tool (polygonial in specific) and then trace the image NOT FULLY, because then the only part youll have to edit is the inside, instead of editing inside trace it and then go outside and make a rectangle (or whatever) around the background so that the image is outside traced and the background section is selected, FIRST make sure the background layer is selected (if you have more then one layer) (layers appear to the right of the screen in the program) (select it by just clicking on the layer tab) and then once you have done that you would want to select what color you want the background to be from the color palette and then use the paintbrush tool to feel in the background in replace of white. You will have to repeat the lasso maybe a few times because its not like just outlining the object itself your outlining the background, OR you can just make a diffrent color background (have to make a diffrent layer (youll see how to make a diffrent layer at the bottom of the layer box just scroll those icons down there)) and then paint the layer the color you want it to be but MAKE SURE that the layer isnt on the image layer then it will all turn that color becasue a new layer overlaps and old one. If the image comes with the white background you probably just want to go with the lasso direction. Alright..thats it, hope yo find it out, if you dont just click my name on here and find out my contact info. PEACE! O yeah and make sure u drag and drop the clipart into photoshop to use it lol.

There are two things you must make sure of.
You must be sure that the format you save the picture in, is a format that supports transparent backgrounds. Second, it must also be a format supported by the site you are uploading too.
The two most common formats for transparent backgrounds are .gif and .png although there are others.
.jpg does not support transparent background.

If you put it on a white shirt, it shouldn't be a problem.

Mapleguy is right, you have to turn it into a gif and then remove all white. Just be aware it will remove all the white in the desgn as well.
