i think caugh drops where not designed for that. in case of a soar throat it's better to use the following remedies:
Warm tea (true or herbal) with honey:)
Cold beverages and popsicles that numb the nerves of the throat
Mouthwash (when gargled) reduces the pain but only for a brief time
Gargling with warm salty water or Betadine
get better soon:) if neither works in 2-3 days go c a doc because you may need an antibiotic

No .Some brands give a feeling of numbness but most O T C cough drops just help to keep the throat moist.

Generally for me, sucking on any kind of hard candy helps a sore throat. That and hot drinks... maybe some milk would be soothing? Also, if you hate the taste of menthol (like me), I highly recommend getting cough drops with apple pectin in them. It has the same cooling effect as menthol but it doesn't taste like crap.

anything with menthol in can feel like it is temporaily helping throat, but it actually makes the irratation causing it to be sore worse, it irritates it, best to get something with no menthol, even hard candies help, sucking on them stimulates saliva and helps keep throat moist. Halls has menthol, read the labels before buying, cloraseptic has throat lozenges that can help,

Yes, they can relieve the pain of a soar throught but, will not do anything to heal whatever is going on. You can also gargle with salt water or go to a drug store and buy some Cepacol it will totaly numb your throat. If this perssist see a DR. it could be more serious like the flu or something.

I think that they help alot - try Chloraseptic (spelling?) or Robutussion - they are pretty good. There is also a liquid sore throat pain medicine out there that is really good - I use it - just cant remember what brand. Check out the store -

They help some, and Ricola is not bad. I would highly recommend a tea at the health food store called "Throat Coat" by Traditional Medicines.
