Is 60 000 baht enough for 3 weeks?

I would like to buy a camera, a couple of tailor made suits, other clothes, acceseries... Eat decent food and enjoy the night life. Would like to stay in 3 star accomadation.

Have heard that everything is a bargain so one should take more than the expect to spend. Could you maybe brake the budget down into how much I would need for food/entertainment/accomodation and then how much for shopping?

Leaving South Africa on the 30th of November and returning on the 21st of December, so will be in thailand for approx 20 days. Bangkok for a few days and then the islands aroung Phuket??

Thanks for your help!!

You will needs lots more than that,
as a guide for all locations look at 1,000bt day for accommodation.

Food in Thailand is very cheap if you eat Thai (and there should be no reason not to) go for 700bt day.

Entertainment, now this is the big question. What do you want to do there.

Having traveled so far you Will want to look around the place and do a couple of trips. This is where the money goes.

If all you want to do is sit in the bars and watch the world go by, look at 1,000bt day.

Internal flights are cheap but do mount up when you take a couple. Bangkok to Phuket is currently 3,300bt Rtn, Samui is 500bt more and the same for Chiang Mai. Its high season now.

So already you are up to 64,000bt, and you haven't done any shopping yet !!!

I usually have a daily allowance of 8,000bt per day all in, but then I treat Drunkenness as a Lifestyle Choice.

One thing is for sure, you will have a good time no matter what your budget is, and you will go back.
Provided you don't stay this time, and it has happened.

REMEMBER.
Overstaying your visa is expensive, and you will need 500bt cash for airport tax when you leave.

You can find 3 star accomodations from 500 to 800 baht per night. See www.asiarooms.com Make sure you read the reviews to make sure there is no construction or any surprises. Try to stay near the MRT subway or BTS Skytrain to save money on getting around. Taxis are cheap 60 to 150 baht each way but, it starts adding up and takes alot of time in the traffic in Bangkok. Subway or Skytrain costs 20-40 baht each way. Watch out on the rating, since the hotel self rates itself. It can be deceiving.

Don't buy a camera in Thailand unless you are willing to pay the equivalent in US. The bargains in electronics are that good. The tariffs are too high.

Food, you could live on like 300-500 baht per day depending on your tastes and stomach for the food.

Entertainment, beer runs from 50-90 baht per bottle depending on where you go. Other entertainment depends on what you want to do. Go to www.bangkoktonight.com, in the Tips section, Cost of living, Cost of a night out, Pricing standards, and Price of drinks. Actually, maybe you should read the whole list. It is fairly current info.

Other sites to check www.thaibargirls.info and maybe www.thailandguru.com he has some different twists to the info.

You may need more money to enjoy yourself.

Shopping there is the Pratunam area or Watergate not far from Central World Plaza for clothing. MBK center is a good place to shop too. The street vendors along Sukhumvit are good for souvenirs and t-shirts.

It's great to spend almost 3 weeks there.

You biggest expenditures will be hotel and entertainment. I found I only ate 2 meals a day. But, I drank a lot of fluids.

Good luck

It ball depends on your personal spending habits and what type of accomodation and entertainment you prefer.

You CAN survise on 60 000 baht for 3 weeks, but I do not think you will have an enjoyable stay. The taxi trip to and from the airport is 2000 baht limousine/1000 baht taxi meter.

Eating of street is fun and nice, if your stomach can handle the hot thai. I would NOT budget less than 700 baht a day for food, and that is if you do NOT have to pay for breakfast.

Most Tuk-Tuks or three wheel motorcycle taxi's will get a commision on what you buy. This includes Jewelry shops, custom tailers, Massage Parlours(Turkist Baths)xxx, Thai boxing
and most exotic entertainment. Most advertise their services as a
day temple tour and then try to rope you into going to a tailor .
They claim they get a gas coupon for their trouble. You can save lots of money by finding these places yourself and avoid paying commisions to the middle man.

Most of the affordable accomidation is located on Kho San road.
Although the prices for these guest houses and quite resonable.
This is not a good place to stay if you wish to enjoy the naughty nightlife as most of the guesthouses do not permit overnight guests.

that amount of money should be enough but do not fall into the trap of trying to save money on every little thing you do if you are like most people travel over seas is a not too common occurrence,
so enjoy and don't let trying to save 20 bt here and there get in the way of your enjoyment .
stay where you want eat what you want and do what you want we are here for a good time not a long time.
have a BALL.!!!
