I have raised a rescued grackle since it was nearly drowned. It was 3 days old (born Mother's day 05) and now full grown and he/she is lovely. I dig for worms even!! Big cage made from hula hoops and chicken wire ~ well, how long will it maybe live?

Not being a bird usually in captivity, you got me curious so I Googled "grackle lifespan" and the longest recorded is 22 years. It appears on an average they can live 12.5 years although not all make it to adulthood. It looks like you have many days ahead with your friend.

You have the answer to you question from the previous answer, but there is something else you should know. The grackle in the US, is protected under the Migratory Bird Act, and possesion of it is illegal unless you are a certified wildlife rehabilatator. Even possesion of feather from a protected bird is technically illegal. You should look into finding a proper wildlife rehabilitator in your area and surrendering the bird to it. If you are found in possesion of it you could be subject to some hefty fines and/or possible jail time.

Good luck.
