Burning wood on bonfires does not contribute to increasing carbon levels - as the trees have already previously absorbed carbon from the air in the first place. This carbon is just being cycled continuously. Bonfires usually cause a large increase in the amount of particulates (smog) in the air, which can be a problem for people with respiratory illnesses. These usually settle out after a couple of days, and are damped down quicker if we get a good shower of rain. That said, our air quality is much better now than it ever has been at any point in about the last 200 years, and I don't see that having bonfires once a year is really the greatest of our problems, environmentally.

It sure as hell didn't help the carbon emission problem, but I don't think it was especially disasterous for the environment. Certainly, November 5th created a fair amount of unnecessary noise pollution, but judging by the people that have also answered, nobody could care less about that. Seemingly people only consider others when it is PC to do so.

Oh please!!!

I'll tell you what, why don't we all go back to living in caves. Will that make you happy?

Oh no, wait! That won't work, because the population is so high that we'd still produce far too much pollution. So we'll have to kill off billions of people to get the population down to manageable, non-polluting levels.

Just as long as people like you are the first against the wall when the cull starts!
