It is a cop out. It is for people who realise the absurdity of rejecting evolution but who still want to cling to their cherished belief in a deity. It is founded on sentiment not evidence. The fact of evolution is as proven as anything in science ever can be by an overwhelming amount of evidence-the theory of evolution by natural selection is challenged by no other competing theory. There is no place for theistic evolution, intelligent design or creationism-they're rubbish and there is no need for them to be taken seriously.

Alucard-I already know what is coming. It will be deleted by Yahoo like previous questions I've asked about evolution because some people can't handle being exposed to facts that undermine their theological fantasies.

Dogzrule-You should learn the facts before you make statements like that. The evidence supporting evolution is so compelling and overwhelming that only those who are completely ignorant or bigotted could deny that it occurs. Only the mechanisms involved are subject to any conjecture which is why the mechanism alone is called the "theory" of evolution. The fact of evolution is proven by an extensive fossil record showing genetic change in species through time which is all evolution is defined as. Do you really think 99% of biologists would believe evolution was a fact based on thin evidence? That statistic alone should convince anyone who is objective and unbiased that evolution is a scientific fact.

Chiquilina-Firstly the fossil record for homonid evolution is pretty much intact but let us assume there was a missing link in this one species. There are millions of species and thousands of intact fossil records with no missing links whatsoever so unless different biological mechanisms are acting on mankind alone evolution in other species proves evolution in man. You can see therefore that the "missing link" is nothing more than a creationist red herring.

Kari. The theory of evolution deals only with the mechanisms involved i.e. how and why evolutionary change in species occurs. Therefore natural selection is the theoretical mechanism to explain that. As regards the fact of evolution it has been observed occuring in laboratories-microbes even fruit flies have evolved in captivity by changing at the genetic level which is all that is required for evolution to be established as fact. Add to that a comprehensive fossil record for several hundred species and the physiological similarities between species and the fact of evolution is not in doubt. Tell me for example why primates and man can't synthesise vitamin c because they have the same enzyme deficiency if they didn't share a common ancestor? You creationists are full of certainties except they don't stand up to scrutiny. In case you want to respond I have revealed my e-mail address but I know like all creationists you won't be able to defend your beliefs in an open debate.

cookiedoughcoolwhip- You say there is no evidence of a common ancestor so tell me why primates and mankind can't synthesise vitamin c because they both (by some amazing coincidence) have the same enzyme deficiency. Only primates and man of all the millions of animal species have a coccyx (the small bone at the base of the spine). Lions and tigers can mate and produce offspring yet they are seperated by thousands of miles and can never meet in the wild. In fact all of these facts are not regarded as mere evidence but indisputable proof of shared ancestry. Again we see plenty of creationist rhetoric, plenty of denials and glib statements about what couldn't be but as always it is just displaying complete ignorance of the available evidence. I've been accused of being ignorant here but I will openly debate any of these issues with creationists if they want to contact me by e-mail.

You must have a lot of time to spare if you invite creationists to "debate" with you. You cannot convince them of the truth because they don't want the truth. They have no understanding of scientific method or principles. The scientific world accepts evolution and continues accumulating molecular evidence that shows beyond any doubt evolution has occurred. There is a Mount Everest of evidence out there, yet every creationist/IDer ignores it. Why? They are not interested in truth.
The world has moved on - IDers are wallowing in the dark ages. Do yourself a favour, do something where you will achieve an outcome. Talking with creationists won't get you there.
(As a rule of thumb - the more rabid the creationist, the worse the spelling and grammar. There IS a correlation, I swear!)

I agree with the first part. However, before you start telling people that evolution is a fact-you had better check it out. I believe that you will find that it is all speculation. The only "scientific" support there is for evolution rest solely within the meaning of the word "if". That is, 'if ' this could be true-'then', this could be 'possible'. And, if this could be possible, 'then', we could 'assume' -this. And so it goes-everyday.
I ask you just one question. Do you "know" how fossils and rocks are dated?
You may "think" you know. But if you really did "know", then you would not call evolution "fact". If you knew and were an honest person you would call it theory, or supposition, or assumption-or something along those lines. Because, scientifically, that what evolution is.

no matter what theory or religion you support there is always a way to make it SEEM real...there is no EVIDENCE of a common ancestor. one has not been identified for humans.. you can always stretch something, add things, take away things, and etc. to make something work... evoltuion may occur in SOME things but humans did NOT evolve...the only obvious explanation would be God..if we evolved from single-celled organisms(which are said by scientists to be the first froms of life on the earth that what started the whole process) it is practically impossible for that many mutations to occur in one lifefrom to become what these multicellular organisms like ourselves are today.jsut a thykaloid membrane out of a plant is too complex to have that many "coincedental" mutations..

I completely agree about theistic evolution being a fantasy. It is every bit as much a fantasy as scientific evolution.
You told someone to check out the facts because there is so much compelling evidence for evolution. You are the one who needs to check out the facts because there are massive holes in every single piece of so-called evidence they have come up with. Even the people who came up with the theory didn't believe it!
Oh, and you are getting a wee bit muddled. The theory of evolution and the theory of natural selection are completely different. Darwin came up with both of them - he believed the one about natural selection but not the one about evolution.
There is evidence supporting natural selection but none for evolution. You really need to sort out what you're talking about before you put questions like this up. You are just making yourself look like an uninformed idiot.

LOL that certainly wasn't much of a "question" but I entirely agree. If you believe in evolution and that the Earth really is billions of years old, then the only thing you'll really be able to believe with religion is that God created the Earth and *maybe* life. Any more religious assumptions just plain won't fit in.

There is no facts in your question but accusations. I think if the evolution theory is true then complexity of all processes that occur during its progres proves that intelligence was involved. When you think how suffisticated configuration of energy caused the big bang to form this universe with its all laws you discover that everything has its purpose here and this purpose is to generate and support life. You can not achieve any purposeful device without design. There must be intelligence involved.
Matter+time+energy+design = purposeful device
According to your thinking :
Matter+time+energy = purposeful device

Science is looking for "the lost link" between monkey and man, where's the "found link"?
While the Surinam's frog developed an oviduct and a membrane to protect its eggs where did it keep them?
How many years did the Surinam's frog take to develop the oviduct first and then the membrane?
Why do you think monkey stopped evolving?
Where's the link between a fish and a bird?
To combine just 100 parts of DAN nucleotides takes 30 millions years and Earth is about 4,500- 4,600 millions old. How many years took the first virus to become monkey and them you?

i do not see how some1 who believes in creationism to call some1 who believes in evolution "ignorant" i mean........ evolution is scientific fact......... the basis of creationism is from a book that was written (i dunno exactly when but it was ages ago) being ignorant is being told something and just believing it now im sure at least 90% of atheists just didnt become atheists because they were told, i myself used to be christian and used to take great offence to anyone claiming that what i was brought up to believe all my life was lies but in my search to prove that evolutionists were wrong i found that it made logical sense. so yea i dont see this changing anyone's views on it but if it encourages someone to look deeper into it and even question themselves then thats kinda good i suppose =D

the scientific fact is - humans are reasonable thinkers only part of the time, so most humans living today cling to the idea of the existence of a deity/s, despite all the facts that point the other way.
I have yet to find a scientific theory describing the need of us humans to believe in things which are not real, but that need is undeniable.

"There is no place for theistic evolution, intelligent design or creationism"well 1 out of 3... you get a 33%
yes theistic evolution is a fantacy
ID and creationism are reality
part of your mistakes lies in the notion that actually the theory of evolution PLUS the assumptions of naturalism lead to macro evolution. It is not demanded by the data but by the religious assumptions and philosophical baggage that goes with it before looking at the data, kinda like stacking the jury before the trial, eh?
point of FACT nothing positive in medicine, agriculture or technologiy of positive benefit to mankind that requires evolution as opposed to ID or creationism
negative effects of evolution... definitely...it is however well known that racism and social darwinism is rooted in evolutionary thought
