Definitely not if you go to the gym.
The gym creates an environment of fitness.
If you are like me, and want to do the workout at home, you end up not doing it.
If you join a gym, and go, once you have driven to the gym, and go inside, it is alot harder to decide not to work out.

I lost 105 pounds in 6 months. Here is how I did it.
1. Every morning get up and walk for 45 minutes. You can start with less time, but you want to get up to 45 minutes, and it must be fast walk. You want your heart rate to go up. It must be in the morning, it kick starts your metabolism.
2. I cut out Red Meat, and fatty foods. Boneless skinnless chicken breast, baked, or grilled, rice and vegetables (steamed).
3. Eat half. Just eat half of what you normally eat. Put 1/2 on your plate, and put the rest away. Cook less. When you go to fast food, get salads only. Or grilled chicken. No fries, only diet soda. Or water.

It will work, once you get into a routine, you will get hooked on the results, and you will keep the routine. It has been over a year for me.

Stay motivated, and get up and walk every day. I seriously lost all my weight starting off my day on my walk.

Good LUCK!

Hi Friend,

I don't know from where you got the notion that it is a waste of time joining the gym.

I was once upon a time having all bad assumptions of going to the gym. But today here i am, talking all good about gym because it has become a part of my lifestyle since 6 years...

I have learnt a lot of lessons from my gymming just not the muscle gains but also a lot of mental stability, stamina, good respectable body(i don't mean mass based, i mean muscularity and body sculpture kind).

But, again going to gym means you have to have a hell lotta patience and self motivation.... It's not about just going in and pumping weights it's an art in itself, where you first start off without weights and do exercises and slowly progress into weights, watch what you eat, understand what you are working out on, slowly master the mind muscle co-ordination technique and a lot more to it....

I really love the gym.... and i don't think i can leave it...
I don't work out the whole day or something but i do spend atleast an hour or two atleast 4 days a week....

Sorry if i have bugged you all a lot.... But it is just that i love gym and workouts so much that i could not hold back....

Anyways, if you are joining i would suggest give it a try. i does help you in a lot of ways....
Wish you all the good health... All the best....

Snvffy is right. I am extremely undermotivated when it comes to working out or exercising. The only thing that helps is that I have a very good friend who goes to the same gym, and having someone to go with has made me more accountable. I feel the gym isn't a waste of time or money when I go with her. Sometimes you just need a little encouragement and support!

i had to answer this because i work at a gym. what it is that people do, when they join gyms they dont get the help they need, by that i mean trainers. trainers arent always supposed to yell at you and force you to do more pushups. you pay them to train you, if you wanted abuse you wouldve joined the army. if you do join a gym and want a trainer try setting an appointment with one. if it doesnt work out, just tell them! i swear they wont get hurt! set an appointment with a different trainer and find the one that gives you the best workout! you make your trainer look good when you reach your goals!
the purpose of a trainer as well is that even I dont understand calories and heart rate and all that jazz, yet.
there is a lot more to joining a gym and working out than just lifting weights. its stabilizing, strengthening, fat burning, setting goals and achieving them.
just be sure to join the right gym before you make any commitments :)
good luck!

Nothing is a waste of time, if you take the time. There,s a million reasons you can find to not join a gym. Make the one good reason your motivation why you should, and keep it going.

depends what you get for your money and time. where i go i have unlimited acces to gym, health spa, all fitness classes, swimming pools and badminton & squash courts, no peak or off peak time restrictions all for £40 per month. I also have the option to suspend my membership if i need to. i normally use the facilities in the evenings after 8pm or at weekends as i also work part-time and have a child of my own to look after. my week would normally include two 45 minute sessions of aqua aerobics, 1/2 hour swim session+1hr swim session, and at least two one and a half hour gym workouts and the occasional visit to the health spa to unwind!! i would consider myself a very busy person but allow myself time for physical activity. Always thinking ahead for long-term health benefits, i don't want to look back later in life and think, "well, maybe if i'd have excercised a little bit more, i wouldn't be in this poor state of health"... it's your choice

its not a waste of time to JOIN a gym.. its a waste of money however to get a personal trainer... you can keep up with calories and weight loss urself.. and all they are there for is to tell you what you need to do, how much weight you need to lose, and what to do, when if you look into it enough you can simply figure this out yourself..

the only way it would be a waste of time is if you make it a waste....make the gym more fun by going with friends for support and to make it more enjoyable
