Cables and wires may be coded on following aspects

1. Type of Cable viz Power control, signal etc.
2. Voltage grade
3. Wheather armoured or unarmoured or shielded including type of material used for such purposes.
4. Material of conductor
5. Size of conductor
6. Type of Insulation
7. Type of sheathing
8. No. of cores

Different codes have to be assigned to these aspects placed at predetermined position so that combination represents the cable being coded.

What do you mean ‘codify’? Schematically? Perhaps you mean depending on diameter, conductive material, the existence of outer insulation and the type of cable (single, multicore, ribbon, coaxial). Hope this helps.
