When i was working as a call center employee, a customer who called insisted that i call him "daddy".He said that that was his nickname and all his friends called him that.I was uncomfortable doing that, so i told him that since this was a professional call, i was obliged to call him by his last name(or maybe his first name, but i didn't tell him that).Anyway, he was pretty pissed off and said if i wasn't going to call him by the name he wanted to be called by,he wouldn't do business with him, and hung up.
It has been a while since i quit that job, but i was wondering, did i do the right thing?Or is it ok to call a customer "daddy"? It feels so weird!!I know i've quit the job and i probably shouldn't care, but this question has been on my mind for quite a while now....

You were 100% correct.
You are a professional and should act as such.
If I was your employer and I heard you call someone "Daddy" I would question you and remind you that many times you are the first impression of the business and is that how we would want to be represented.
Now if you are developing a professional relationship with the customer and they requested to to call them by a nickname and you were comfortable with it without losing yours or the companies image as professional then go ahead.

You did the right thing. Being in the job you were in, I'm sure you came across your share of wierdos. He was the leader of them. He wasn't going to listen to you either way and sounded like he just wanted to play with you. You did the right thing and don't ever doubt that. Alot of people out there in the world are pretty sick and you just had a small taste of that. Good luck and GOD bless you. You didn't do anything that would have made anyone think poorly of you. As a matter of fact, you should be quite proud of yourself for handling that situation the way you did.

No it's called sexual harassment. You should have bumped him up the chain of command until he hit a male supervisor. I bet this prick would not have made him call him "Daddy"
Women who talk dirty on the phone for money get paid a lot more than you were probably getting.

There's no way you should have called a complete stranger on the phone "daddy." It should have been Mr. Whatever. Sounds like he was a bit of a sicko.

He was probably just messing with you. Some folks do that to telemarketers, because they're very annoyed to be called. So they invent ridiculous games to play with the call center employees, to get into their heads and to be annoying. To them, it's revenge for you bothering them at home. You played the game correctly, by not letting it alter your behavior.

Of course you did the right thing! There's no debate on that. What kind of person asks such a thing? Your job was to deal with his professional problem not with his mental problem.
