Congratulations, you are strong and brave to do this! You are no longer padding the pockets of the "fat cats" who have manipulated you into harming your health.
You are in the worst day, they diminish each day thereafter until about 2-3 weeks, at which time you one day realize you have not been thinking about it all the time. You will occasionally have small cravings (psychological at this point) for another 2-3 years.

I have to say that it took a good month for the cravings to lessen.I learned from a previous drug addiction that if I could get pass the initial crave,if I could just say no to myself for 15 minutes and do something else it would pass and it does. It's the initial crave that we give into that dooms us.You can do this if stopping is really what you want to do,These habits aren't something you can stop because someone else wants you too,you must truly be sick and tired of being sick and tired.I have been cigarette free for months now i don't even remember when i stopped,I don't dwell on how long it's been,I only know I am glad I don't smoke them anymore and this is the first time I've owned a car and the only thing I use my ashtray for is change. In fact I forgot that I use to smoke them.I know it's hard changing your ways but that's all it takes is you changing you.You can be in control of you if you want to be.No one can stop me if I want to smoke or do drugs.I am a grown woman with my own income so the only thing that stops me from doing these things is me.I like being in control of my desires.I like my life better with out these little habits ruling my every day.Good Luck,God gave us all the ability to choose,so choose what's best for you and stick to it, you will like your self better.

I envy you!!
I can't seem to put them down for four hours, let alone four days. I can make it three hours, but after that, the fights on.
Sounds funny, but try this. When you get a craving, sip cold water.
Something about the cold kind of chills the craving and also satisfies part of the 'hand to mouth' movement that you're missing.
I keep bottled water in the fridge for this and fill up the empty ones again, so it isn't really expensive to give it a try.

Hi,
Great post! Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life, and I thought I wasn't addicted!
Here's what I tried before finding success: hypnosis, those fake cigaretts, the nicotine patch, and group therapy....none worked.
I finally tried this HERBAL patch I bought 6 months ago on the net. They claim a 97% success rate. Well, it worked! They had a sweet deal which was a free 10 day trial for only $3.95 including shipping (it's regularly $53 for 10 days)!!
I don't know if they still have that deal, but it's worth a try.

I'm currently quitting as well and after the initial week, it gets ALOT easier. But I have found it is better to have a cigarette here and there rather than pulling out your hair. I used to smoke a pack a day and I'm probably down to 5 or 6 a day. After 3-6 months you will have officially quit. It's more about breaking the habit of smoking the cigarette rather than the chemical addiction.

The cravings never stop. I have also stopped smoking (again). Been at it a week now. I am on Zyban, which works like a dream. No depression, mood swings, cravings etc. I tried it 3 years ago, and it worked. (Only started smoking again during my divorce). The only problem is : everything tastes so darn good now, I keep shovelling food into my mouth! Last time I got Soooo fat! I picked up 30 kg's! Lost it all now though, and am now watching what I eat. Eat lots of fruit. It will keep your hands busy, without worrying about your weight. Good luck!!! Keep it up!!

I don't know how long the cravings last...I think I've heard they last for 3-6 days but I'm not sure. I wish you the best of luck!! I'm fixing to give them up myself so I'd be interested in knowing the answer myself. Hang in there!!

28 days for the bad ones but they will come back even years from now. They won't be the same physical cravings but you may feel like one outta the blue one day. That's why people give up for five years, then start again.

Without giving into temptation every night, after a few days the cravings should die down. However, the cravings will never completely go away; they will just get easier to deal with through time.

I quit Febuary of '05. Even now I sometimes get cravings. But not bad at all. When I hit the 1 year mark, I was having dreams that I smoked. I would wake up a feel guilty. The dreams were so real; I would even have the taste in my mouth.
But, YOU CAN DO IT!!!!
