Well this is kind of an interesting question.
First of all, all marines go through the same exact basic training it is a 14 week course. Not all Army recruits go thru the same basic training.
If your in the army in infantry then yes you go thru a 13 week course, but if you are in non combat arms MOS such as a mechanic your going thru a 8 week course then off to AIT. Basically the infantry army soldiers have their AIT included in their basic training course.
Marine Basic training consists of some things like water training that Army basic training does not. I would say over all they are very close if you look at a marine recruit and an Army infantry recruit. The word "infantry knowlege" is kind of a fuzzy area. I have met many Army soldiers that don't know **** about the technically aspects of being an infantry soldier and same thing for marines... basically there it's all about the individual.
One important thing to note is that the marines are a more specifically trained organization. They are all combat arms where the army has much more in the support organizations. The army I would use the analogy as a Broad Sword where the marines are a very sharp dagger. They both serve their duties and do them well. The differences really come down to the individual soldier.

i'm biased towards the Marines, but the answer, when asking strictly about infantry knowledge, is probably no. Boot Camp and Basic puss..i mean, combat training really exist to mold a civilian into a Marine or puss..ahem, soldier. This means physical conditioning, strict discipline, and with the Marines at least, an instillation of pride in Marine combat history. Marine Boot Camp produces a higher quality 'student' to be trained in infantry tactics than Army BCT, and the Marine will undoubtedly surpass his Army counterpart at SOI (AIT for you beer-bellies), but until then, strictly speaking about infantry knowledge, after Boot/Basic, Marines and soldiers are still just raw material yet to be molded. Although, if your question was: if you put a basically trained Marine/soldier in a combat situation, who has the higher % of surviving? I would say the soldier would still be trying to figure out which button fires his rifle while the Marine would be popping people at half a click...Get Some!

The Marine's have more knowledge and train more and harder in Basic Infantry Training. The Marine Corps rifle training is far above what the Army teaches in regards to accuracy, accountability and marksmanship certification.

Marineswife has proved her ignorance. (Be proud of what your man does, but also at least know what you're talking about.) The Army BCT is for 9 weeks. During that time, they are trained hard and taught the basics of survival.

I believe that upon leaving Basic, Army and Marines are equal. After that and into specific training, the Marines MIGHT excel. At least in certain areas.

EDIT: Very nice and mature way to handle it marinewife. Especially since you were WRONG. A big woman would admit to it instead of acting like an immaure child. And, THAT is the reason people don't like Marines. You are NO better than anyone else. Remember, we all serve this country proudly. You MIGHT understand that when you grow up.

P.S. The Tin Man has a very valid point. The Marines on this post do rely on the Army for everything. Funny how they can't exist without the help of the other branches. I thought it was all about working as a team.

BS the Army knows the same amount that a Marine does. Army only trains like 4-5 weeks for boot camp. The Marines are there 13 weeks and then they ALL go to another school for several more weeks before they even go to their MOS school. The Army is not getting more information in less time. That's why Marines are the BEST!

I think so. Marines go way more in debt with their training because they are put in the most dangerous places. We learned a lot in basic training, but not near as much as the marines do.

wow, all kinds of ignorance in this post.

When it comes down to it, find out where Marines go for a majority of their schools training... at Army posts.

In today's military, joint operations are of the utmost importance. It's not a question of basic training, that's for ignorant civilians and privates to argue over. Now, it's a matter of EVERYONE being able to work together and accomplish the mission.

I've trained with Marines, Air Force, and Navy and called in Close Air Support from all the other branches. No one asked what piece of cloth sewn over their left breast pocket said.

not at all....the training in Basics for the two are almost the same.

Jar heads just got to take a lot of more discipline teaching mind-game stuff.

Not saying the ground-pounding grunts don't, cause we do, but they got a lot of more of it.

In AIT, and onward to perm-party depending on MOS they might...but as far as just basics...almost exactly the same.

i became into infantry in the two branches...0321: 2nd Recon BN, U.S. Marine Corps (6 yrs), and then 11B: 82nd ABN DIV, U.S. military (4 yrs). indisputably, the Marines have greater discipline, interest to element, and espirit de corps, however the army has greater effective training. quite some the incredibly professional wrestle and management training a Marines gets is offered by the army (i.e. specific Forces scuba college in Key West, FL; Ranger college, Airborne college, Pathfinder college, and so on...). frequently, the respect graduates from those military colleges are the Marine Corp trainees... probably with the aid of thechronic and discipline that seem greater commonplace contained in the physique of recommendations of Marines. The Marines are an elite tension...in maximum circumstances the army isn't elite, even with the undeniable fact that, it has smaller elite armies interior the bigger military. those smaller armies, like specific Forces, 82nd Airborne branch, one hundred and first Airborne branch are only as elite with the aid of fact the Marine Corps. training is what you're making of it, and how severe you're taking the educational will define how nicely knowledgeable you're. i admire the militia, as a result, i don't have a decision for one branch or the different. yet i visit assert that if a boy is seeking to coach himself a guy, connect the Marine Corps. in case you like the army, and prefer to coach your self a guy, do only you homework first to ascertain you're transforming into a member of between the smaller elite Armies as antagonistic to the final military...or you will possibly desire to be disillusioned. God Bless united states of america of america and all people who serve this super united states!!! One Shot One Kill!!!!
