I have tried making my pictures smaller in paint but it doesn't work. I can I get my picture size smaller. They are currently about 1.2 to 1.5 each and I need them less than 256kb each.

You need a good photo program to save them into jpg files. I use Corel Draw. It could be that MS Windows Paint will do this. Use the Save As option and choose jpg.

Try to convert them into JPG ( if BMPs ) , or if you don't need a high quality , convert them into GIF format ( also using paint )..
If they are BMP , ofcourse smalling them will distroy all the details , so convert'em into JPG , then go to IMAGE (in paint) > stretch/scew > 50% 50%

And this will work as I think ... hope so

For the Best use Photoshop cs
it is the best to do it for you.
it is a little bit advanced but you need it for just resizing and that is a simple task to do without tutorials.

Since you only want to resize, try Photo Resizer.
When you resize, change the file name slightly, or save to a new folder to
prevent overwriting the original photo.

There are dozens of free photo utilities out there. check zdnet.

if you want your picture smaller without loosing the color and file quality go to this page and download them at the size you wish.

Or go to www.download.com and look for design programs or just type picture editor...
