I for one dont. Here is why.
If you are a Christian/ Jew/ Muslim, then you should have no reason to believe in it. Thats breaking one of the Ten Commandments. But since many christians and other religions in this country (and the world) are hypocrites, they will believe it anyway. im also a christian. The only time you should kill is if your life (or someone you love) is in IMMEDIATE danger. When you kill someone, you play God.
If your an atheist, look at it this way. When you kill or execute someone, they wont live to regret what they did. Wishing death to someone does not solve anything. In fact, you are actually doing them a favor, because they wont have the conscience to look back at their ways.

TO JAMES:
(Matthew 5:37-44) "But let your communication be Yea, yea; Nay, nay; For whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil. Ye have heard it hath been said An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you that ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also. And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away. Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

Yes I do beleive in the death penalty.
I try to be a Christian, but because of my lfestyle I am not a good one.
however, the Bible does have a good theory "an Eye of an Eye"
I Think that some epeople need to die. This is comuing form my personal view, not that of a trying to be Christian-
It costs way to many tax dollars to keep these pedofiles and murders and rapeists locked up for life. If you intentional end someones life you have taken away their right to life, therefore you should have yours taken as well. If some man or woman sexually abuses a child they need to die. If someone rapes and amn or woman, they need to die.
I believ in Capitol punishment-
If a rapest is caught, tie some wire around his nut sack and tie the other end to a hitch on a car, have the car start off slow and then speed up a little at a time, as long as the guy can keep up, he can live, eventually the slip knot is going to cut off his stuff.
the person found guilty of murder should be publicly kaned. Let the famliy of the person he killed have the first hits, or bring back stoning as well. I think if we did things like this there would be less crime. If murders knew that they were going to die when they killed someone they would be less murder. We need to punish people according to the crime. If I walk up to someone and shoot them for no reason, I can be out of jail in as little as 5 years, but if I rob a bank with a gun, I get 20 years min. What the hell is that???
You know I love ya Aaron, but this is how I feel.
kisses,
BJ

Letting cold blooded murderers roam the streets or rot in jails isnt gonna do society any good either.
For one, punishments arent done for punishing only. Theyre done to stop the rest from doing them.
People will be more afraid of hurting the rest if the punishment is severe enough.
Also, death penalty is a very humanistic way of punishing a cold blooded murderer...because the family of the people he murdered would rather make him live in pain for ever...
there are worst things than death

If a man smite you in the cheek, SMASH him in the other.
Hit him high and low for self preservation -and that of your family- is the highest law!!!
So if your son or daughter was brutally and repeatedly raped and abused for weeks and then murdered, you don't think the person who committed these crimes should be put to death?
It works both ways: The criminal should be put out of his/her misery as there is obviously something causing them to do these sick things. And the rest of the community should be allowed to have the satisfaction of knowing that that person is no longer out there in the community.
What about those criminals who don't ever show remorse, who brag about their horrible crimes for decades, while they live it up in jail, at the Taxpayer's expense?
I honestly do hope this helps you come to some sense.

I am no hypocrite The Bible says an eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth I would not be killing a person by pulling the switch on the electric chair of someone who murdered or raped a little kid

I am against the death penalty ONLY because with new crime techniques (DNA) MANY convicted people on death penalty have been released due to DNA evidence. Until they can come up with a fool proof way of conviction I will be against it.
BUT
If a person has killed a person out of violence or induced by chemicals and is unrepentant and refuses self improvement therapy that person deserves the death penalty

It is NOT murder. It's not somebody killing another in hatred, jelousy, rage, control or wickedness.
Capital Punishment MUST BE because those serial killers and such have a sickness of the brain, heart and spirit and there is nothing else that could stop them, and keeping them in our prisons is a complete waste of money. I'm tired of paying for criminals to live who don't deserve to see another day of light again!
Also, the only way to even be considered for forgiveness for murder is to give up your own life after committing such an unpardonable sin! The Death Penalty is a perfect time for this to happen.
Nobody is held accountable for the death penalty. It is the State's doing, not a single individual.
Your argument has no grounds. What about war? What about self-defense? What about Abortion?
All of these things must be murder then, too.
Wow, we're all screwed up and going to Hell then, aren't we?

As an Atheist, I'm more concerned about the innocent person that ends up on death row awaiting death for a crime he didn't commit. An apology to the innocent's family after the fact is not as good as correcting the mistake and releasing them. Life is all we have and to take it away from someone innocent is unconscionable.

I disagree. There is a difference between killing and murder.
Do you think letting a murderer live so he can regret what he did will work? There are many cases where murderers have gotten "off" or out of the charges and murdered again. The real punishment is if they don't accept Jesus and suffer for eternity in Hell for their sin. I don't see killing a murderer as doing anyone a favor, but the potential next victim.

We do need to punish criminals... I think all will agree, but punishment by death is rarely (if ever) needed in America.
Punishment by death is justified if that is the ONLY way to protect society from that person.
America is very capable of punishing someone by keeping them "behind bars". This also protects society from them.
Think of the D.C. "snipers". They are behind bars and no longer a threat to society, so there is no need to kill them. The only reason to kill them is to get revenge.

Yes and No. There is always the chance a person is not guilty. For this reason, No.
If it is absolutely for sure that the person is guilty, Yes.
It has nothing to do with religion. However, if you want to make it about religion, the Bible says, ''an eye for an eye''. This means you can do no more to a person than he has done. He did death, he dies.
