I saw a commercial on TV last night.....when we are born we have 300 bones in our body and when we become adults we have only 204 bones, what happened to the 96 bones?

some, like our skull, which starts in 4 plates I think, grow together into one or fuse. That's why we have a "soft spot" as newborns. Others must be the same.

As a child/infant you have more bones in your body for flexibility and growth purposes.

As you grow/age your bones fuse (i.e. skull bones) to become 1 bone instead of many.

So technically they do not go anywhere, they are still there, but become attached to others.

The bones in the hand and feet fuse as we age. See if you can look at the x ray of an adult hand and compare it to a childs hand.

as a child grows certin bones fuse together to help promote growth
