Not to panic, but these are symptoms consistent with very serious conditions including aneurysm or hydracephelus promarily. If I were you I would get to the ER for a brain CT STAT. Seriously dont wait if the pain hasnt subsided with analgesics it could be very critical. Let me know if you have more questions mcc_md@yahoo.com

For some home remedies you may want to pick up a book called "Taking Control of TMJ". Can I also suggest that instead of an ortho you consider a more specialized doctor. The problem with TMJ disorders is that dentists are not trained as doctors and doctors are not trained as dentists and they miss all the problems that overlap and constantly refer you back to the other one. It's very frustrating. If you go to the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain you can find a doctor in the referral area who is most likely both a doctor and dentist or just a dentist that specializes in TMJ and is uniquely qualified to treat your condition. An ortho will look at you as a surgery candidate when in reality it's possible you need nothing more than a "full occlusal adjustment" - essentially making sure each tooth is lined up properly so when you bite there are no pressure points putting a strain on the tm joint. Until you see a specialist keep up the opening/closing exercising and you can use moist heat (a hot washcloth) on the area to keep the muscles a little looser. Unfortunately exercising an injured area will always make it a little worse before it makes it better. And for now stay away from bagels, steak, and anything else which will require extra work from your jaw! Don't give up. Good luck.

HI. Well you need to see a doctor! It could be as simple as a sinus infection to a problem with your eyes. It could also be a migraine! Lay down in the dark, put a cold compress on your head, no noise, take 800mg of Ibuprofen, and call the doctor. I am a nurse and this could be anything, better to be safe! Hope you feel better soon!

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck. Headaches can be
caused by minor problems like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more
serious reasons like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can have harmful side
effects, so it is better to modify your lifestyle. More information

Even if you are feeling and seeing better now, please go to your Dr. You need to be evaluated. If you don't have a private physician, go to your local Emergency Department. Tell them what you told us--"This headache then went to the sharpest pain in my life....."

SOUNDS LIKE YOU GOT A MIGRAINE HEADACHE, SEE YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT GETTING SOME PAIN KILLERS SUCH AS TYLENOL #2 OR #3 FOR IT. IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO CODEINE HE CAN PRESCRIBE ANOTHER MEDICATION FOR YOU EQUALLY EFFECTIVE.

I think you should see a doctor. It may be just a severe headache but you should get it checked out.
