The correct position is similar to the way right handed people hold it, but almost all left handed people bend their fingers so they face their belly instead of out like right handed people because their teachers didn't know how to show them ( This may be an old stereotype, I don't know but when I was young fingers faced the belly). In any case, if you are a natural leftie do what feels natural to you and don't listen to anybody then you won't have problems.
I was forced out of being a leftie. My son is ambidextrous; he was a leftie, but his piano teacher asked if she could make him use his right hand. I told her she couldn't make him, but wouldn't mind her letting him use both hands. My baby seems to use both hands too. My son uses both hands with his fingers facing out not towards his belly like most right handed people.

The correct way for a lefty to write is to tilt the top of the page to the right by 20-30 degrees, keep a straight but relaxed wrist, have a relaxed 3-point pinch grip on the pencil and sit centrally and straight-on to the desk. This will prevent the hooked posture, twisting actions, fatigue and smudging. There are a number of products around now that will help if needed.
Good luck!

When you write with left hand just only turn the paper a little to the left. That's all.
