Neither rain nor wind will deter deer from feeding or any other activity until it becomes a downpour or gets pretty breezy. The rain doesn't seem to have that great of an effect on deer movement. I have seen deer moving about in a pretty serious rain shower. A downpour is a different thing. They will then to hole up in the woods if the rain gets too hard. I think it has a great deal to do with pouring rain making it difficult for them to hear or smell predators. I think that is more of a concern than comfort. Wind is the same way. A breeze doesn't bother them so long as it doesn't blow hard enough to began to sway trees. When it gets this high, it covers the scent and sounds of predators. As long as deer can smell or hear predators, the rain and wind doesn't bother them. I've shot a lot of deer when it was drizzling rain and/or light breezes but have seen few deer when it was pouring rain or blowing hard.

They will move about. Laying down will not keep them dry. They might even move better. Deer do not like wind much but still they must eat. I would look near the edges of dense brush or watch a path through dense brush if I were after a deer on a cold rainy day. If the rut is on it could be blowing a hurricane and those bucks will be moving.

Lay down undercover. They move before the rain and do not like being out in the wind since they rely on their sense of hearing for sensing danger, which the wind covers up. When it's windy they get very nervous and jumpy. And they usually move all together, even if they are miles apart, I'm baffled by them. They are very good meteorologists and I rely on them more than the weatherman.

In many locations I've seen more action directly after the rain stops than any other time of the day. I think it depends on the region and how safe the deer feel. I have 5 doe that feed every night regardless of weather, the bucks are a bit more skittish and unpredictable.

deer are very cautious & tend to not come out as much when its heavy wind or pouring rain, they have excellent hearing and a super sense of smell & winds & rain make hearing & smelling predators a little harder. As far as just a light rain, they will be out, esp in really cold temps when they need to feed or mate.

They don't seem to mind rain or snow much. I shot several deer in falling rain and snow. Wind is a different story. A light breeze is ok. Fast moving wind, or shifting wind direction, is a problem for deer. Remember that as a prey animal, scent is the primary defense mechanism they have. It is the earliest warning system for danger ahead. That's why they tend to walk into or quarter into the wind. When it is moving too fast, or changing directions frequently, it confuses and "blinds" them to danger ahead. That makes them spooky, and then they tend to lie down until darkness where they feel safer to move about.

deer will move in a light to moderate rain, and in winds up to about 15 mph. a heavy rain or high winds usually will send them into thier "security" shelter. that is usually the best time to try to stalk them down i have noticed.

It all depends on where you live and what their feeding patterns are like. I know in Michigan where I live, the deer do move in rain/snow, just not quite as much. Their senses are hampered a lot, they can't smell as much, and the rain softens everthing and they can't hear as well. Makes them leery (sp)?. Definately though, if you are a hunter, you will want to not let the weather affect your hunt, most hunters leave during the nasty days, and I have taken my best bucks in the pooring rain! Good luck!

Unless disturbed...Deer will bed down in rain and wind. They may feed if wind/rain is prolonged. You can hunt, but you must move them out of thier beds...good time to hunt because not many hunters in the woods...they don't want to get wet..poor babies..LOL
