"According to astronomers, the Earth should last for at least five billion more years before the sun becomes a red giant. Due to the sun's loss of mass the Earth would escape to an orbit at a further distance than its current orbit. The immense heat however would likely boil off the oceans and turn the Earth into a barren wasteland looking like Mars does. If the Earth survived this event, the sun would further evolve into a white dwarf and provide too little heat to sustain life."
Normally I don't copy and paste but Wikipedia explained that a lot better than I could've. I guess the "five billion years" estimate is assuming that some other catastrophe doesn't happen in the meantime, like an asteroid impact or human-created disaster or anything like that. But if none of that happens, Earth will be here for a while yet.

Humanity will not be around much longer. Over the centuries, your planet was a curious place to visit once or twice and was not considered very interesting . Sure, your wars showed us how undeveloped you are as a species. Your infantile,(in cosmic terms) dependence on god concepts does not bode well for you and neither does your penchant to breed beyond your planet's ability to sustain you. We are now showing an interest in you because it is not often that we get to observe a species commit suicide. You are so close to maturing as a sentient species and it will be a shame to see you kill yourselves. There are just not enough of you becoming rational enough to force the issue. You let the least among you determine your fate, so be it.

very simply, the sun will expand and engulf each planet in turn, Earth is number three BUT, by the time it engulfs the first, mercury, it will already be too darned hot here on earth. Space colonisation is the only answer to the survival of humanity - and, since there's no such thing as god, we will have to arrange our survival ourselves, except that this will all take place a few years in the future - too many years for you to worry about right now.

"Our sun is about 5 billion years old. It is nearly half way through its life. Five billion years from now the sun will run out of hydrogen gas. When that happens the sun will grow about one hundred times bigger than it is right now. And then it will start to become a white dwarf. Our sun will become a glowing hot ember, about the size of Earth. It will eventually cool down." (reference below)
By that time life on earth as we know it will have ceased.

It is a finite energy source so yes it must end but the timescale is into tens if not hundreds of millions years from now before its final demise but it would undergo a long process of deterioration before that.

The sun will eventually become a red giant and engulf the Earth. I believe the timeframe is in about 3.5 billion years.

Yeah, in a few million years...It's a star.. They eventually explode and take LOTS of planets, other close stars with it. Black Hole.Don't worry about that, we're more likely to blow up earth ourselves with our nuc's,or a whopping meteor plowing into us. In other words, live life as if it is today.
