Hi, I drive a Toyota Reflect 1996 model. The car has 2 Kenwood speakers fitted in the back. Each of the speakers has 110 Watt rating and has four wires (1 Black, 1Red, 1Gray, 1 Blue), there are two pairs of wire coming out of the radio/casette-player. The car is second hand and the previous owner had probably connected the wires incorrectly. The speaker used to give screeching sounds while giving any sound output. I have rewired the speakers, and the screeching seems to be reduced. But it cannot produce the Bass like other cars of the same model. I want to know the correct wiring scheme. Please help me.

Left Speaker: 4Wires (1 Black, 1Red, 1Gray, 1 Blue)
Right Speaker: 4Wires (1 Black, 1Red, 1Gray, 1 Blue)
2 pairs of Golden wires

My friend had the same screeching problem with his Acura. Unfortunately there really isn't anything you can do about it except deal with it. Just make sure all the wires are all the same material (i.e. copper, steel, ect) as well as properly connected and insulated (i.e. taped with electricians tape). That might cut down the screeching to a miniscule level.

To solve the problem with the bass, you'll need to purchase an amp. One 500 watt amp would go above and beyond your wattage needs for two 110watt speakers and it is still very affordable. You could probably pick up a 500watt amp for under $70 at Wal-Mart.

Look up the model of the HU (radio/cassette). You may be able to find a wire color code and wiring diagram. You may need to re-wire the whole thing and that will be one big PITA, but worth it in the long run. A multi-meter will definitely help in tracing down wires.

If the screeching sound doesn't go away and your 100% sure the wiring has been corrected, then it may be time for a new HU as the current one may be shot.

The four wires of the same color going to each side of the car does not sound right at all.

My suggestion after having the same problem, is just having the car wired with new speaker wire will save you the headache of not having bass. It might sound like a lot of work but anyone can do it. don't take to a car audio place they will charge way to much for such little work. all you need is a screw driver for removing the molding on the floor of the car, speaker wire cutters and some premium grade connectors.
