I am quite partial to a tortilla wrap, with grated mature cheddar to line with, then smokey bbq sauce on top to add some moistness. Onto that goes sliced spanish chorizo sausage topped with thin slices of honey-roast ham. To finish, diced tomatoes and shredded lettuce with a dash of mayonnaise (no lite or low-fat though!), folded up and cut into 2.

Magnifique!

Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich

1. Start with good beef such as Rib Eye.
2. Shave the beef very thin so it cooks quickly and remains tender.
3. Use a fresh high quality Italian roll - Amoroso’s is a favorite.
4. Decide if you want your steak with or without fried onions.
5. Decide if you want a steak or a cheesesteak. If you elect a cheesesteak you need to decide on American cheese, provolone or the Philly favorite "cheez whiz".
6. Any add-ons? Mushrooms, peppers, pizza sauce, tomatoes? You decide. It’s your sandwich.
7. Start to cook. Sauté the onions, peppers and mushrooms until soft.
8. Fry your steak until brown but not crispy or burned. You can mix in the fried vegetables now or add them at the end.
9. If you elect American cheese or provolone place the cheese on the meat until slightly melted. If you choose Cheez Whiz just smear it on the roll.
10. Place the roll over the meat/cheese/vegetables and scoop it into the sandwich.
11. Garnish your sandwich with pizza sauce, hot or sweet peppers or pickles as you choose.
12. Enjoy your Philly Cheese Steak

A crusty roll filled with ham or turkey slices, cheddar cheese, slices of granny smith apple and slathered with Old Cape Cod Sweet & Hot Honey Mustard. I can eat this every day of the week. The roll really is best crusty and crunchy.

I have 2 that I make at home -

Roast beef with avocado slices (splash of lime on the avocado), mayo, salt and pepper on thickly sliced whole wheat bread.

carmelized onions and pears (use a little red currant jelly to carmelize) with crumbled blue cheese on french bread. Eat while still warm.

Wholegrain or Pumpernickel bread, a little light Philadelphia spread, shredded lettuce, carrot and beetroot, tuna (mixed with lime juice and a little light mayonnaise) a little wholegrain mustard, salt and pepper.

Most delicious sandwich EVER.

Where to get it? My kitchen.

Most people would consider my choice quite boring but it's a classic. A nice thick wholegrain bread, with a good quality strong chedder and a chunky pickle or chutney. Yum!
