body rots, mind and spirit leaves. moves on.
If still attached to this world (and the atheist invariably is, not knowing of the existance of a superior spiritual world) then they stay in this world and enter the seed of a new living entity.
What they 'do' is they have to go where their karma and desires take them. For sure they'll get new bodies. They don't necessarily go to hell. They always have a chance to start to see things differently.
i've heard that when a perosn is in the womb its such a suffering condition that the perosn actually does pray sincerely to God to get out of this miserbale condition (our link with God exists no matter what a person says he believes... just cos they beileve God doesnt exist doesnt mean he doesnt exist. (obviously)
You know some theists get terribly sidetracked and deluded, they are not very clsoe to God even though they belive and they often behave worse than the sometimes gentle natured atheists. They get in different trouble.

Since they basically believe in oblivion, they would experience oblivion, similar to that state between our falling asleep, and when we begin to dream. Then they will realize that they ARE experiencing...then they will realize they still exist.
