I've been flossing for several yrs now. I recently decided to use a water pick. To my surprise, I noticed some bleeding when I tried it for the 1st time. Is this normal. I would expect this reaction on someone who has not flossed.

if its not bleeding so much then thats normal, it could also mean that ur gums are sensitive to it, maybe gumdisease/Gingivitis.

Healthy gums are pink and firm, fit snugly around the teeth, and do not bleed easily. Early-stage gum disease (gingivitis) causes:

Gums that are red, swollen, and tender.
Gums that bleed easily during brushing or flossing.

Gingivitis also causes red, swollen gums that bleed easily when brushed or flossed. gingivitis usually doesn't cause.
if you think u may have gingivitis you may also need to check if:
Gums that pull away or recede from the teeth.
Persistent bad breath.
Pus coming from the gums.
A change in how your teeth fit together when you bite.
Loose teeth.

if you think you may have gingivits you mayneed to contact your dentis, and you may need to get deep cleaning (root planing and scaling)

hope this helped!!

Just be CERTAIN that you are not pointing the water jet directly AT your gums. It should be aimed between your teeth so the water stream follows pretty much the same path that dental floss takes - in one side and out the other. I've seen some patients start to use the WaterPik on their own without proper instruction really ruin their gums. I mean, ruin them beyond all hope to the point where they lost some teeth within a couple of MONTHS of incorrect use.

If it's a small amount of bleeding (slightly pink spit) then it's completely normal. If it's a lot, then you might have something wrong.

It is completely normal. It happens to me as well, and there is nothing wrong with me.
