No no no! I always think it's weird when people want to have sleepovers with my child, especially people who don't seem to care to spend very much time with ME. 3-year-olds are too young to spend the night somewhere just for fun. Now if mom is in the hospital or something, that's different, but if it's just for fun, let him play with the other adult. You can tell the person "I just don't think he'd be comfortable spending the night at someone else's house". Granted this person is probably not interested in doing anything harmful to your child, but there's something about people just wanting one-on-one time with kids (which now that I have a kid, I understand why that's appealing and fun) but no way would I let my daughter spend the night somewhere for no reason.

If you are talking about the childs father - of course the child should spend the night there in his home and begin to bond with it's dad - to start to trust and rely on dad too. That won't happen if you don't let them alone to establish a parent/child relationship as opposed to a "visitor stopping by"

If this is anyone other than a parent or relative - I agree with the last. There is no reason a 3 yr old SHOULD EVER spend the night with "some person" down the street. I never let my son stay at anyones house other than relatives until he was old enough to use the phone, memorize our address and phone #, call 911, etc.

Not enough information to form my decision but if it's a babysitting arrangement then it would be better at the house of the 3 yr old child as they will settle better in their own environment. If it's just for no other reason then don't allow your child to stay at a strange adult's home at all.

Does the name MICHAEL JACKSON mean anything to you. I think everybody was disgusted and shocked when he said he thought it was okay for a child to spend the night with an adult.

If this isn't a relative of the child, and even then if you don't trust them, don't let them go, for any reason, let alone spend the night.

If this adult was the childs father or grandparents then I reckon it would be OK. If not, then NO WAY! You don t let that child anywhere without you! Don't you read the newspapers or watch the news??

It may be your inlaw is trying to give you a break by keeping your child overnight. It is also a bonding thing for them. To be the adult who wakes up with the child in the middle of the night, shows the child he or she can trust him. My in laws live 3 miles away from us, and they take our kids overnight frequently. When my daughter was brand new, we lived with my parents for awhile and often my mother would take the baby in the room with her for the night. To give me a break, and also to bond.

No, no, not at 3 years old. Is it that you don't trust this person? But you are inviting them into your home, too, so that must not be the issue here. Keep her home at least until she's 18 and you will always be protecting her!-A mom of 3 grown and almost grown
