go for what you believe, and if you always hear that God is against such and such or your religion is against such and such, then it maybe wrong...thats just how things are...but in the end you do what your heart is telling you, and remember no matter what God loves you.
Good luck and God bless you hope this helped

All systems of belief are based on faith. Trying to live your life based on hard rock evidence will leave you seriously disappointed and with an unfruitful life. Trying to live life according to your own rules will cause you to have a very short life. Belief systems are not meant to be so flexible that they conform to your individual desires---this approach is backwards and upside down. It is the individual who must conform. Religion is not a mold that we pour ourselves into and then are popped out as clone-like beings. Religion is a system of guidance toward a higher purpose. When we die, we are not just dead in a box. This is the atheistic point of view, which is unnatural and makes no sense. Why would we exist if there was no higher purpose for our existence. How could we exist without there being a God?

Religion is the placebo of the masses. It offers pie in the sky for sacrifice and pain in the world. It is a fool's deal.
If you find aspects of a given "religion" objectionable, then pretending to adhere to a given cult/sect/denomination is hypocritical, at best.
If you do not have a personal philosophy of behavior (an ethic), then by all means learn and adhere to the codes espoused by one or another of the religions out there. But the "worship" angle that adheres like a leech to most of these philosophies is utterly worthless.
Work hard, do good things, be nice to others and create something new every once in a while.
Let the deity or deities take care of him/them selves.

I think we should follow the religion we personally believe in and feel is the right one.
You don't have to agree and believe in all parts of it to be happy following that religion.
EXAMPLE: I'm catholic but not only am I divorced (with good reasons) I am living with someone (divorce not finalised) & have a child with current partner. I also agree with the contraceptives as I believe it is preferable to an unwanted baby being born.
All of these are against my religion but I have no problem with this, I believe it's the right religion for me it's just that some parts of it are out of date for todays society and life.

I am speaking on a Christian perspective.
Regarding homosexuality:
We all sin. God says homosexuality is a sin. This doesn't make a homosexual worse off than I. I have sinned as well, I lie, I use vulgar language, I look at pornography, I lust, etc. God know what our sins are and which we are naturally going to commit (commit without thinking about it). As long as we truely ask for repentance will forgive us. I also pray that he strengthens me so that I can resist that sin.
Regarding A Christian not seeing existence in God:
Doubting happens to the best of us, but if a Christian truly believes that there is no God then they need to reexamine their Christianity. Christianity does not come from being born into a Christian family or being American it is the surrender to God and the acceptance that Jesus Christ is the son of God and God himself. (Side note: God is three parts similar to how humans are trillions+ of living cells working towards a greater goal.)
Religion:
The real question comes whether we are really that much smarter than those of ancient times. The Romans believed in gods, then the Greeks, eventually, did not believe in gods and then during the medieval times they believed in gods (i.e. God). Again from a Christian perspective religion is a set of rules to follow. Christians don't view Christianity as a religion, but as an enlightenment. God says "these things" are wrong, but He knows that we are not going to be able to follow them. A Christian life is truly about understand what God wants from us and wanting to please Him. He wants our surrender that He is our Creator and our love for Him. To surrender we realize that we cannot follow the rules without His help and we can only love Him because He first loved us. Honestly, in Christianity there is nothing we can do as man to achieve God's acceptance. That is the beauty of Christianity, that is what makes Christianity unique from all other religions, that is what separates Christianity from religion. I suggest reading "Mere Christianity" by C. S. Lewis.
You were not born to faith. Your parents led you to the door it is now up to you whether you want to enter or not. Examine the religion and see if it is the truth you are seeking. Just know one thing Nature does not lead to good and evil. We as humans understand that animals are not good or evil inherently. They preform actions based on need. This puts Humanism in question. How can there be good or in other words how can we conceive good if Nature doesn't derive good naturally outside of the human mind. Also bad/evil is a perversion of good. You can do good for goodness sake, but you cannot do bad for badness sake. We do bad when we want to pervert or rebel against good.
Please read "Mere Christianity" by C. S. Lewis. I am not saying it will convert you, but it may answer some of those question you are wondering about. I will buy it for you if you cannot afford it. Msg me to let me know.

I'm gay and ended up leaving my church because I could not figure out how to reconcile the two. I spent many years in a Christian church trying not to be gay, but ended up feeling hypocritical in every way. I know that I did not want to live a fake life. It felt somehow more honorable to God to at least be honest about who I am than to have a secret life.

I suppose it depends on how serious you are involved in a religion. Religion in most cases has improved persons. Like the bible it has shown how to benefit the most out of life. Of course not many pay any attention to it.
Like Ive said before, the bible has been accurate in the past, present and it must be accurate on what it requires and what will happen in the future.

Friend, If you were raised a certain way & you know that is wrong then get out of it, You also stated That if a Christian can not see a reason for the existance of God, Friend a True Christian will not think that way.A true christian will know without a shadow of doubt that There is Only One True God.

Interpretation of religion is open to all sorts of abuse, faith in religion is the antithesis of rationality and reason,
If we could use faith as a legitimate tool for knowledge then everything would be possible just because we chose to believe it and nothing would be true.

I think religion must contribute to someone's progress in life. Making someone happy in his skin, feel secured. If the religion ascribed by your parents make you unhappy then you should acquire a new, which reflects you way of thinking as only then you will be able to beneficiate from it.
