So this ineffective government of ours is thinking about national road pricing, at an average of £1.35 per mile.
Is this really going solve the issues or is it simply yet another tax on the motorist?
My office is 110 miles from home, so a round trip, which I do 2-3 times a week will cost almost £300.
I certainly won't pay it, my company will, they in turn will pass that to our clients who will then pass that onto their customers, that's you lot.
The consequencies of this will be devastating, this clearly has not be thought through, no surprise there.
Your thoughts please.

Cars & Transportation
➔ Commuting
In the big scheme of things, England need really good public transport.
It must be affordable, reliable and managed properly on a national scale.
Removing the profit incentive of so many greedy PFI messes should also be considered.
A coordination of current transportation needs is essential to decide what routes should expand and where new services need to be added.
This government is inept and has passed it's anti-Midas touch on everything.
A research program into hydro-cars to make oil redundant would be a major leap forward but oil is a nice tax spinner so more public voices should pressurize the government.

This is by far the BEST idea the government has come up with yet.
I do NOT drive (due to ill health), so travel the 20 mile round trip to work every day by bus. At least 99% of the cars that go past me - either while waiting for the bus, or travelling on it - have only 1 person in them. And they live close to another person who either works in the same building, or very nearby. The buses are extremely cheap and most days are half empty.
Road pricing is the ONLY sensible way to get more people to car share or travel by bus.
To all the people who say 'But there aren't any buses near where I live', all I can say is 'When did you last look?'. I live a 20 minute walk from the nearest bus stop - downhill in the morning and uphill in the evening - so if I can do it in the pouring rain with a gampy/painful hip, knee and ankle then EVERYONE can.

This is just another tax dreamed up by stupid people sitting in some government office with nothing to do, and trying to justify their job. Tell me how pricing somebody to use the roads will actually bring down the emissions. This is a law that will be discriminatory as only the rich will benefit as usual. If we took all our cars, trucks etc. off the road tomorrow and never used them again, China will have made up the pollution saved, within two years. The government use the car and anything associated with it as a cash cow to pay for all things not car related. And as for these supposedly Eco friendly cars run on batteries, The batteries have to be recharged regularly, this is not very Eco friendly in my estimation, also the batteries will have to be disposed of after a while, so are not environmental friendly.

Just another way to extort money from the motorist would rather go to prison than pay.
It takes me 10 minutes to drive the 6 miles to work if i was to use public transport it would mean getting 3 buses and a journey time of over a hour thats if i am not on early shift 4am start when there are no buses

many people commute these days not just to work but to visit family the family visits will have to be curtailed in favour of going to work, many low paid will finish up spending the proffits from their labours into going to and from the place of their labour, those treats that one has to reward themselves for their labours will be few and far between everything you earn youwill be paying out, it means one will be working for free, its no use claiming a wage if if all the bloodsuckers are going to claim it back of you is it.the super rich want people off the road so they can drive lesurly alongthey have been trying it for years. Its time to do the opposit
ban road tax ban insurance, and hit the road untill a fair and just compremise is reached. I visualise the a roads and back road traffic increasing and more night journeys.I made a prodiction that before tony blair left he would do us as much damage as he could. He should be arrested and tried as a traitor.

i think its mad to try chagring those of us that actual need to use the roads on a day-today basis, i.e. getting to and from work. the people that should be charge are the ones that use their cars to nip to the corner shop, or run the kids to the school ( which is within walking distance )
If they would get the trucks of the roads and back onto the rail they would free-up a large portion of the motorways.
It make me sick when i'm driving to work every day and 50% of the traffic is trucks.
also in towns/cities most of the problems are caused by the large number os busses, with nobody on them..why on earth do we need three or four bus companies in every town,,,they are just making road worse...

Appalling. Just another way to get more blood out of stones. My husband and my children's jobs depend on their ability to access remote spots a long distance from home. They could not afford that kind of money. This government has encouraged people to move out of towns to ease congestion and now they are going to tax them for it.
In this country you now are taxed for being born, for living, for dying, and your children continue to shell out on your estate. It is highway robbery to fund fat government cats, and wars that we did not want .
