I've done Haj .The big structure that you talked about is a symbol of God's house building by Abraham to be a place for muslims gathering together and pray.We dont pray to that rock ,we just pray infront of it .and also there is a meteor rock which was not black at first but yet we dont pray to it either .that rock was sent from heaven like a miracle and Abraham put it on kabba ,as a symbol of god's hand in earth.

We DO NOT pray to a rock!!! We pray to God only!

That rock was once white but turned black coz of human sins. It's a reminder to all of us - a symbol of human sinful nature

The history of that rock is present in all monotheistic religions.

Its a piece of stone from heaven and its used as a pole for turning our faces when we pray.

Abraham himself built the kaaba.

We cannot turn our faces to any of Gods creations.

And God informed us to turn our face to the kaaba as it is His House. And thats where we turn our face.

While the overall intention is praying infront of God, who sees us from every direction.
