I would tap my hand on her mouth (not hard) but quick, 2 quick pats and say "no spitting" every time she does it. and use a serious voice, I dont mean yell, but dont say it sweetly.

She takes her cue on what is acceptable from you (not that you are spitting on people! lol). So when she does, gasp with suprise and say "spitting is bad" to her, then apologize to the other person.
If she sees that you really dislike her behavior, she'll stop, her main goal in life right now is to please you.
(I'd bet that someone - not necessarily you - thought it was cute the first time she did it! That's why she keeps it up)

Eight months old?
She will stop on her own. I've never seen a tyke that young actually spit. I bet she can't spit far.
If that's the only thing you're concerned about, consider yourself blessed.
Give her a hug for me.

She's 8 months old. She's not walking yet. She wears a diaper. Probably doesn't say more than a couple words, if any. Hasn't mastered spoons, crayons, ...SHE'S A BABY.
